Oly, are you sure the VLS are already bedded? I can't find any evidence of that in the blurb.

I've decided on my next rifle, and I'm going for factory Rem700, Varmint barrel, in .243 caliber. I'm looking for advice on stocking it. The .243 caliber only has two stocking options from the factory, so I now feel that I have two choices:- 1) Standard Laminated stock, have it bedded. 2) Standard synthetic stock (Which looks and feels a bit naff), swap it for a Wild Dog varmint stock and have it bedded. The second option will be about £150 more than the first. What would you do? Is the Wild Dog stock worth the money?

I currently have .243 and a .270 rifles, both with T8 sound moderators on. I'm changing my .243 for a different spec rifle. So my question is...... I would like to use the T8 from my .270 for both the .270 and my new .243. I know this is OK in terms of being able to fit, as long as I get a new back bush bored out for the .243. Will the fact that the T8 on the .270 has a larger bore than the T8 on the current .243 (.30 as opposed to .25) have any affect on accuracy and sound dampening ? How will changing back bushes affect accuracy? Currently I always remove the Mod after a shooting session, and this does not affect POA in any way. Has/Does anyone out there do this at the moment?

Good advice from Vole21. Do the Discover Diving course on holiday, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Then if you decide to take up diving take a course in the UK. I've been diving for over 20 years, and still can never understand how these overseas dive centres can claim to teach you how to dive in three days. Here we will teach you how to dive, not just how to pass a dive test. It will probably be run over a few weeks, with many pool sessions and at least three open water sessions, plus exams. You'd be surprised how much there is to see whilst diving in and around the UK.

BD, In reply to your questions....absolutely yes. MY GSP comes with me everywhere, in the beating line, sitting on the peg when I'm shooting, pigeon hide, walked up rough shooting, stalking, rabbiting. I personally think they are one of the most versatile gundogs there is, which is why I keep them. Mine have all been fantastic with kids and adults, and the breed is well known for being a good house dog. Not necessarily the easiest of dogs to train, but when you get it right they are wonderfull shooting companions. They are bred to run all day, so they do need a lot of excercise, expecially in the off season. They also need to be kept occupied, if they get bored they can have a tendancy to eat your house.

The T3 in .243 has a 1-10 twist and should stabilise anything up to 105grns. My T3 actually shoots the 100grn Partitions’ better than the 70grn V-max. G.M. I remember you gave me some load advice at the time Graham, whatever I tried (different bullet makes, powders, primers) I just couldn't get groupings that I was happy with. On the other hand the 85gn gamekings and 75Gn VMax work a treat in my T3.

I have space in my rifle cabinet that needs to be filled, and I fancy adding a .22 caliber to my collection. Do any experienced lads on here have any suggestions for one of the .22 calibers which would be suitable for modifying/tuning etc to make a long range varminting rifle? Which makes, models, calibers are worth thinking about? I'd prefer something with relatively easy to source reloading components, so the wildcat rounds are probably not suitable. (Unless you know different). I'm happy to put the time and effort into action bedding and load composition etc, but I'd like opinions on where to start. All advice appreciated

I had real problems trying to stabilize 100gn rounds in my T3 and after a great deal of testing ended up with Sierra 85gn Gamekings. Very accurate and excellent stopping power.

.243 wears a 2.5 - 10 x 42 Swaro. I very rarely move it off 9x unless in woodland, where I reduce the mag. .270 wears a 6 x 42 Schmidt & Bender and I've never needed anything more than the 6x. I think quality of optics means more than large magnifications.

Do any of you reloaders use, or have used, an Ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning your cases? If so are they any good? I've had one offered but would like to hear some experiences before going ahead.

Forget the 105gn A-Max Oly, do the fox a favour! Try 75gn V-Max......you won't regret it, and neither will the fox.

Stuart hit the nail right on the head there! (I mean the aggro with unreliability bit). I've had quite a few responses now, and I think I've replied to everyone, my apologies if I missed anyone. The majority of the responses were from lads that, in my mind, are just too far away. It may seem like a good idea travelling 50 odd miles to shoot...for a while. But I don't need anyone that is willing to travel to shoot, I need someone that will travel to work. The shooting will come later, after the work is done. One forum member is in pole position, he's local and I already know he's reliable, so he has got first refusal. However, there is always room for one more, the offer is still open to anyone that wants to learn a bit, but please be realistic with the travelling.

Stuart, On the two registered grounds close to me you can shoot birds only as a non CPSA member and have to pay £2.50 on top of the birds only price. I know the ground owner and he's pretty low key about non members. At the end of the day he wants as many shooters through his ground as possible. I'd suggest speaking to the individual ground owners rather than the CPSA, at least you'll get the correct response rather than the CPSA 'Ideal' response.+

I recently introduced a PW member to a chunk of my permission as I had too much to cope with. (Top bloke by the way! You know who you are!). I now have another 'opportunity' for someone who is looking for shooting permission... Here's the basic deal... I do the keepering on two farms and I need help. This would entail helping with general building/maintenance of pens etc, feeding of birds, beating on shoot days etc etc. This is all very laid back, nothing too strict, but can be hard work. Transport to North Oxfordshire/South Warwickshire is an absolute must. In return, you would get vermin control permission (pigeon, rabbit, corvid, squirrel, fox, all the normal critters). At first this would only be accompanied, but once you're proven to be safe and sensible then it could open up. Also, there would possibly be some accompanied deer stalking. A good opportunity for someone that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and learning a thing or two. This is just the basics, but if anyone has any interest or questions let me know.

I've been using Lee kit for 15 years with no complaints. Having said that I do use RCBS dies and powder scales. These are the only bits of the Lee setup that I didn't like.
