At UK inflation rates since 2001 a price increase based on inflation is £20.07 so roughly around £70 for a cert
-
I am neither agreeing not disagreeing with price rises, I was simply stating that a 280% increase is going to get people, who are already seeing an extremely poor service, questioning why they should be paying more. My FEO who visited me was excellent, very enthusiastic and some great advice. However he certainly didn't work hours that suited me, I had to take the morning off work to meet with him and he explicitly said that they don't work overtime anymore because they aren't paid for it anymore. With regards to catridges, I wouldn't know as I have only just got my first gun. But at least with those there is a choice as to whether you would like premium catridges, or the cheaper end. I can see both sides of the argument, but there are people out there who are in less fortunate positions than perhaps ourselves, who would be blocked from entering a great sport, by severe costs of entry. Personally I think the figure needs to be revisited and a more sensible increase suggested

Wow you guys have way too much time on your hands. I think the main thing in all of this is that, some forces are currently managing perfectly with the budget that they have, whereas others are struggling. There is a huge gap between 5 week turnarounds and 19 week turnarounds that others are suggesting. This gap can't just be caused by being busy, there has to be an element of poor time management in there as well. Therefore the long term answer cannot be to charge more and increase staff employed. They need to fix there internal management issues first, and then they may be able to justify any kind of price increase. Also you cannot go from £50 to £190 and claims it's due to inflation.....so the reason has to be justified. I work in an office and if I am extremely busy, I work more hours to catch up and ensure my clients get the best possible service I can offer. I am not paid any extra for this, but I know there are 1000's of unemployed graduates with better degrees than I have, just waiting to take a job like mine. I'm not particularly well paid, but I have great aspirations and it took me a long time to save up the money to purchase my shotgun + all the costs that go with it. Unfortunately I think that some of the firearm departments lack this commitment in there offices, and yet there are people who could fill these roles and would be grateful for the work.

Oh right fair enough, my FEO just said he would see what he could do and then rang me to say it was done. Don't blame you mate, very poor service!

Oh really? I rang the guy that actually visited me, and he said he would check and if they hadn't done it, he would chase it up. Subsequently, when he checked, they had already processed it.

13 weeks to the day. Spent a couple of hrs down the fennes this morning....in the rain. Shot very well with it. Owo you should give your FAO a call, I rang Paul and he said he would check it out and chase it up for me. If you ring around 9am they are usually at a computer so can check it and chase it up

Walked in mine for a good few miles last weekend and they were very comfy, and kept my feet just the right temperature. Seem well made. -

Does anyone know how much BASC coaches charge for lessons?
-
No hope for mine yet then :( 19 weeks is ridiculous. They wouldn't get away with it in the private sector. You need to get your cert through so you can fill your time less productively by the sounds of things

Owo, any news on your application yet? Still not received mine. Hopefully get it soon.

I just bought a pair, delivered yesterday. The brief walk around indoors and they seem very comfy. But only time will tell -
Yep that is what I have now done, and no reason why I shouldn't get my SGC. FEO was happy when he visited. Looking forward to getting my own cert through

Owo, how long has it been since your FEO visited? Mine advised it could be up to 8weeks and then said, but it won't be 8 weeks. It has now been over 8 weeks.

I spoke with the guys from the BASC, they are very good and know exactly what is going on. Although they did say to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a week. If I haven't heard anything by Monday, then speak to Nick Alston the police crime commissioner. Apparently this time of year is supposed to be he quietest time for grants and renewals.

Chavez, as a sensible help in response to your question. I was also a little worried about this, partly because my garden is a communal garden. I bought a Browning cleaning mat off ebay for about £20 (which in the grand cost of everything wasn't a huge amount), I can lay this on the floor and it will hopefully stop the c**p getting on the carpet. All I need now is my SGC to come through the post, but unfortunately it is taking forever..... Personally if I had a private garden (overlooked or not overlooked), I wouldn't be too worried about cleaning it in the garden. I usually get on with my neighbours so wouldn't be a problem.

As an update, I spoke with them again today, apparently they moved offices last week which has slowed things down even more. Told they are currently processing the Grant applications that were received in October (I am guessing that will include yours owo1-man), and they will be getting round to the November applications in a few weeks time. Could be a very long and frustrating wait by the sounds of things.

Thanks guys, I am in the Great Dunmow area, I think I will give my FEO a call this afternoon and see if there is anything he can do for me. Looking to buy a gun off a friend of mine, but doubt he can hold onto it for much longer as he needs the money for his new one

Hi, I am new to this site and this will be my first post. I sent in my application for my Shotgun Certificate around 11 weeks ago, and about 2 1/2 weeks later the FEO came round and did his inspection (all fine and he was happy to approve). It has now been 8 weeks since he came round so I decided to give the Firearms department a call and chase it up. I have been told that they are so short staffed that they haven't even touched the pile of Applicants they have at the moment, as they have a back log of renewals? Sounds like alot of people are in the same position as me, waiting for a grant that isn't likely to come any time soon. Is there any way I can speed this up and get them to process it? They have been unable to give me a time scale, and it has already exceeded there 8-10 weeks (given on the website). I am reluctant to complain as feel they could just decide to reject my application. Thanks
