  1. Nice work gents. Headed back out last night..what a pain in the backside....bright moon, crunchy grass, then fog...... Saw the first fox who also saw me...it was in a dip so no shot then off it went....fog started to get thicker so I headed back to the truck . On the way I heard some commotion in the bottom of one of the fields. Got the rifle set up and out a fox trotted ..went across the bottom of the field and then sat down..to be met with a 58 grain .243 in the side of the chest. Nice size dog fox and just before the visibility went down to about 5 meters
  2. Thanks Stu. I got caught out by the moon. Spotted a fox at the top of a field with no safe shot..then the moon came out and lit up the field like it was the middle of the day...went home at this point. Good luck for tonight mate, heading back out myself as it looks like the only dry night of the week.
  3. Cheers Ed. I have kept the foxes down for a few years now but there are always a steady stream to deal with (no surprise there). I have had some tricky ones as well..any sign of light or movement and they are gone..40 hours over 2 weeks and a bit of luck dealt with the last one. As you say their luck will eventually run out..keep at em buddy
  4. Thanks Grant. I should have tried to avoid showing the pool of blood on the grass. The buzzards and red kites seem to like dead foxes at our place so it is easy to find them in the morning lol
  5. Headed back out on Saturday night to have a look at the chicken farm and another farm close by. The full moon was hidden behind cloud so it wasnt a bad night. I stopped at the top of my drive just to see if anything was in the top field. Parked the truck on the lane had a quick look an there was a fox in the field. Rifle out, loaded, NV on and set up on the bonnet. Fox no 1 down . I took the pic the next day as I didnt see the need to go and walk to the top of the field to pick her up Headed over to the chicken farm and it started to go a little wrong....due to human error of course lol. I parked up and checked the first field..nothing. Set the rifle up as I was going to see if calling brought any luck. I walked up the field to set the caller up..without the rifle, flicked the torch and there were 2 foxes...by the time I got back to the rifle they were the top side of the lane so no chance of a shot...watched the one wander off presenting plenty of opportunities for a shot..if the road wasnt there. No amount of calling would get them to come back ...numpty Over to farm 2, arrived, parked, got out, quick scan with the torch...fox at about 70 yards. Walked to the other side of the truck, rifle out, set up on the bonnet just as a car on the main road lit me up......amazingly the fox was still sat there after the car passed and down she went. Stunning vixen Saw two more before the night was over but neither presented a safe shot.
  6. Cheers mate. Loads of internet issues at work so I cant upload the pics at the mo.
  7. Well done Ed. I headed out myself last night for a change. I need to do a little bit more concreting but a delay in the steels has meant I could finally get enough time (and energy) for a look. The chicken farm had some losses last week and despite a couple of visits I havent had any luck. Drove down track that leads to the farm and spotted eye shine in the full beams. Truck off, lights off, rifle out, lay down next to the front of the truck and the fox dropped to a chest shot at about 90 yards. Nice and easy Nothing else seen in the next hour so headed to another farm the other side of the river from the first farm. I had an extra mile to walk since the farmer has just installed some pipes across the track I use...and not filled it in. I didnt fancy a 6 ft long jump with rifle, sticks etc All quiet on this part of the farm so headed back over the road to the top piece of ground. Spotted eye shine straight away. Stalked in ready for the shot..then the cloud cleared and full moon lit up the area....fox legged it .... I headed across the field and put the caller on for a bit which got a reaction but again the moon was causing me trouble....I managed to tuck in by a tree and then spotted 2 foxes the far end of the next field. A quick move an I set up on a gate post and dropped no 1 and no 2 at about 160 yards. 2 More dog foxes. All in all a good nights work and 3 less foxes to worry about.
  8. True..wish we had enough of a house to have heating..I think the mice are moving out at the moment to find somewhere warm I am actually heading out tonight to see if I can remember what the rifles in the cabinet are actually for lol
  9. Nice mixed bag as always Mark ...winge winge winge
  10. Nicely done Mark, glad that the foxes are appearing and keeping you busy.
  11. Nice one Stu. Spent 3 hours out on Saturday night after a fox killed the 18 or so chickens that didnt make it in before the pop holes closed on Friday night...saw nowt.....back out over the next few nights.
  12. No worries mate. .243 is a cracking round, have fun Well placed .243 round tends to put most things on the deck.
  13. Cheers gents..some bits true some bits not so I use 58 Grain Winchester Varmint x rounds in my .243 for the foxes. Fast and hard hitting and certainly do the job. Well done mate. As Grant says I am letting the side down...no chance of any cheap foxing kit though
  14. Thanks Gents. I feel I am letting the side down by doing virtually no shooting at all...but needs must at the moment...need heating lol
  15. Well done gents ...apart from the bag related comments House and work seem to take all of my time...last fox I shot was in a fox trap so not worthy of reporting back. Think I need to step down as fox club president..Grant and Ed- care to take it on as a dual role?
  16. Well done Mark. I cant count so no comment from me on the 5,6,7 or 8 species
  17. Just what an exhausted bird needs...your ugly mug scaring it
  18. Sounds a good deal mate. I barely get thanks from most of the farmers I shoot for
  19. Good point mate. Dont get anything other then a Tikka T3, Ed says they are rubbish
  20. ....T3 is a nice rifle but not the only option Ed ...but a very good choice. I have a Howa 1500 and Browning X bolt in .243 and both do the job well.
  21. Did a bit of work on the "mansion" last night (building regs are round tomorrow to inspect my footings) so wasnt planning to head out. Got a text from the farmer at the chicken farm saying a fox had been spotted so thought I better head out. Arrived and got set up with the caller. After about 10 mins I was frozen so headed off for a walk to warm me up Had a check on the one field where the fox had been seen and was met with seriously bright eye shine that was perfectly white...bloody cats...or so I thought. Headed over the gate into the field and another check with the lamp showed the same eyes...I thought I better check as the farm cats dont normally head off in the direction that the eyes had gone in..NV on ..FOX....NUMPTY Managed to get set up and he was still there. He dropped at about 70 yards to a chest shot. Happy farmer and a lesson learnt.
  22. You cheeky swines It isnt easy when evenings and weekends are the only time we can do stuff. We have done a fair bit since we started in Feb but have lost a lot of time with the unexpected issues. We have replaced about half of the oak floor joist and a main beam, downstairs, built 2 new full height structural walls, installed new stairs, replaced a load of flooring upstairs.... Currently...knocking through a main external wall (which is now internal) to make the front room bigger. Wall is 500mm thick stone so fun and games with doing that and not collapsing the wall on top of us Thats probably bored you all to tears for the moment.
