  1. I was thinking of buying a gunlamp for my air rifle and for my rimmy (when i get one) and was just wondering which is the best to go for, for around £70. It'll be for air rifle so I don't need a 400m beam or anything. I've been looking at the Deben Tracer Atom Tacticals, any of you use this or know if these are any good? Cheers, Joe
  2. You'll need a moderator, make sure you include that you'll be using one when you write out your forms
  3. Sounds good, i'll be putting in for both then just to be sure I guess the .22 is the cheapest option in the long run regarding ammo etc, and it's the quieter rifle. I've heard the hmr is more accurate over longer distances? Might be good for abit of bunny sniping... Regarding makes, i've only ever shot a CZ .22 and found it was good, however, nothing to compare it too. I've had a couple of shot with a Sako recently, and was shocked that there was no recoil whatsoever and very little sound...didn't realise id fired it! Also extremely accurate. What make would you guys recommend? Id like to try and get a rifle and scope set up for £250 or lower....is this do-able?
  4. Blimey, free shooting and no replies!
  5. I'm applying for my FAC in the next few weeks, and need some advice on whether to go for the HMR or the .22. I'll be using it for rabbits, but as far as I am aware you can take Foxes if close enough with a HMR, can you do the same with a .22?? My knowledge on rimmies is quite limited, so any advice would be appriciated. Cheers, Joe
  6. My first experience of killing was a rabbit with a .22. I did feel guilty for a while afterwards but like alot of these posts say, it was outweighed by my excitement. Think of it like this with pigeons - you have put a great deal of time and effort to get them down, so when you shoot them feel proud that your fieldcraft has finally payed off and you'll be rewarded. A few months back I'd gone out and shot a couple of rabbits, and my stepdad said he wanted one for cooking and for me to leave it for him. Turned out that he 'didn't get round to it' and ended up throwing it away, which p***** me off abit. Make sure you keep eating what you've killed, then there is nothing to be ashamed of. Happy hunting!
  7. I see, is that near the Hinckley Road?? Read my post in the 'shooting available' section, if you're looking for abit more shooting over the summer
  8. Good shooting, he looks happy! What breed is he??
  9. I have a few months off over summer and need to put my time to good use! I have few permissions dotted around Coventry and Bretford, pigeons, rabbits, crows, foxes etc. I have 800+ acres cleared for FAC .22 (not too sure about bigger calibres) I've only got my SGC, but wouldn't mind a go at abit of lamping in exchange for some shooting! Not bothered about ability but would prefer somebody with abit of experience behind them. PM me your details if anybody's interested Cheers, Joe
  10. Just wondering if anyone needed a hand with vermin over the summer around Coventry area. I'm off uni for 4 months so need to put my time to good use! Am willing to let them join me on my permissions. I only use a shotty and air rifle but i have land 800+ acres of land cleared for FAC. Let me know if anyone wants to share/swap permissions! Cheers
  11. Shame i'm not FAC, I've got 4 1/2 months off over summer aswell!
  12. Unfortunatly we don't all have sniper friends to send us nice things though. Plus think of the convienience: you dont have to buy a hide so you'll save money there as a decent hide costs over £55 poles and all, you don't have to lug the hide around a field til you find your spot. You don't have to go through the hassle of taking a hide down, and setting it up again in another spot if the birds are coming in somewhere else. Worth an investment i'd say, let us know how you get on with it!
  13. This is a long shot, but you can only say no. I'm currently studying Countryside Management HND and I have a year out starting from September in which to do a work placement. At the moment i'm struggling to find anywhere that will take me on for what I want to do. I'm passionate about shooting and the countryside and ideally, would like my placement to involve pest control, shoot management...whatever involves working outdoors. I have experience in fencing, walling, felling, bridge and footpath work, hedge laying and carpentry, as well as agricultural, geological and ecological knowledge. The placement has to be a minimum of 9 months, however i am able to split this (I could with someone on a shoot for the coming season, and then move on if 9 months is too long). As I said it is a long shot, but there might be someone out there who would like a hand on their shoot for a few months and is willing to teach me the ways of the trade. This is voluntary also so no worries about paying wages either. The position needs to be full time and if less, the period in employment must be adjusted - i.e. 4 days per week = 11.25 months; 3 days per weeks = 15 months and so on. If there are any gamekeepers, shoot managers, countryside managers reading this that can take me on for a few months, please get back to me! I'm 19 and will put in 110% effort to my work experience. Cheers, Joe
  14. Nice shooting. Where in Coventry are you?
  15. Nice shooting. Looks like you've blown the front legs off the bottom right one
  16. If I wasn't at uni in Wales at the moment I would definatly be up for that! I live in Coventry myself and could probably rally up a few troops.

  18. I need two pigeon wing spreaders for the rotary, and a telescopic bouncer if possible. Will pay, or swap with two full sized flocked flying crows.
  19. You can shoot them all year round according to BASC. I think there are certain areas where there arent many hares, where this time of the year it's probably frowned upon but there are plenty around where I am so it isn't a problem.
  20. Went out "pigeon shooting" earlier, nothing about but I found this instead! First ever hare, very pleased with him. Not had a hare before, do I need to leave it to hang? And for how long?
  21. Would just like to thank Chicane for the Browning that my stepdad picked up the other day, he's just rang me to tell me about how pleased he is with it! The gun is in mint condition and the photos don't do it justice. Chicanes a very nice bloke and the sale went smoothly (despite there being a mix up on my behalf). Would definatly buy off him again! Anyway the old mans very pleased with his new toy, can't way to go home and see it! Cheers, Joe
  22. It all seems pretty hypothetical to me! I know what you mean about the 'paying to shoot pests' thing but i'm going to be honest here. I wonder what the percentage of pigeon shooters on here do what they do because it's pest control and they are doing the farmers a favour. Yes it is, and undoubtly it makes a huge difference, but I for one do it because i enjoy the sport, not because I want to save my farmers crops, although obviously that is a postive factor! Let the antis have a pop at us, nothings gonna come of it!
  23. *grabs handbag* OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! f f s!
  24. I can see where you're coming from, but I reckon this is a great way of introducing people to pigeon shooting. If you took someone whos a noobie onto your land one day and there was naff all to shoot (which lets be honest, is most of the time), most people wouldn't be interested and give up on the idea. Give them a go on a permission and there's plenty to shoot all day, they'll be gaggin to knock around some farms asking for permissions. Plus the way my permissions are going, im quite happy to pay a bit of money for a potentially great day out!
  25. Sounds like a good offer, have you got any dates for this?
