  1. Jackie and Richard Clarke have just installed a new pay and play range at Six Mile Bottom Shoot. I have been up to see it for work, it's in some woods and they have put a whole lot of effort and thought into it. Hard standing for the car park, get a card and shoot as much or as little as you like. They have launched a priority club for first chance bookings, email Jackie on the email below if you want to grab one of the last places. "It's a bit windy up here" I said to a colleague. "That'll be why they put the windfarm here then" was the crushing reply! But it made the clays more fun. I've got a couple of slots left at a preview event we are holding for women shooters on Friday 2nd. From Six Mile Bottom Facebook: Pay & Play at Six Mile Bottom Shoot New Sporting Layout of 10 different stands in rural surroundings Stands suitable for all levels of skill from beginners to experts (and all in between!) Fibre Wads Only Launching Saturday 3rd April Groups of 2 to 6 people (following current Covid-19 rules) 34p per clay – pay after shoot (card or cash) Refreshments available to purchase on site Toilets on site Pre-booked timeslots every 45mins available for Saturday 3rd April from 9am Wednesday 7th April from 9am Thursday 8th April from 2.30pm £10 per person deposit Email jackie@sixmilebottomshoot.co.uk for enquiries or book your slot
  2. Hi, Yes its the age old question of gaining permission to shoot on land. I currently shoot on a large estate and have known the estate manager/game keeper for some years without any incident. Being ex-military I am always polite and courteous of whom ever I meet whilst I am about shooting (in life as well), and this has stood me in good stead over the years (you never know who you meet whilst out). But due to partridge/pheasant shooting my shooting is curtailed between some months due to this well deserved sport as this earns the estate the money they need. So off I went looking for pastures new, I looked over the advice on the website regarding gaining permission to shoot on land. I dressed smart, printed out some business cards, knocked on quite a few doors and introduced myself politely. I explained where I currently shoot and who for and gave the farmers the opportunity to ask me questions and if need be check my story so to speak. As a communications/mechanical engineer I offered my services such as beating etc any time when I am not at work to them (i work 4 on 4 off) and at Christmas I popped round some of the nearer farms and dropped off some of my home made sloe gin, just to keep me in mind if anything comes about. But as of yet not much luck. I had many replies such as "We already have some people who shoot for us" to "NO thank you". I totally understand the point that some farmers just do not want some stranger wandering around their farm with a gun and yes trust needs to be earned. Just wanted to gain some of the forums experience from this matter, what if anything am I doing wrong? Is there anything else I could be doing to improve my odds etc. Just for interest I live not too far from Long Melford, Suffolk. Thanks for your time and comments. Regards Flash.
  3. Hi, I'm 27, have recently moved to the Newmarket area and am looking to settle back into my shooting again as soon as possible. Ideally I'm looking for a local friendly syndicate for the 2015 game season and also for some pigeon shooting, walked-up vermin control on an ad hoc basis over the summer. I'd really like to hear from anyone who might want a mate to accompany them on outings or to help out when a second gun really helps. I have a couple of shotguns, appropriate insurance and over 10 years shooting experience. Thanks, Sean
  4. Good morning all, Myself and my brother in-law are looking for some land to work/help out on. We are around the Ipswich and Claydon area and are looking to work his ferrets and get some pigeon shooting in while we are there. If anyone has any ideas or hears of any land I would be really great full of a thought towards me. Many thanks Yogi
  5. Good afternoon all, I'm looking to join a Wildfowling club in or near Ipswich, Suffolk. The two I have come up with are the North Suffolk Wildfowlers and Colchester Wildfowlers. As I have said in my welcome post a few days ago I haven't been shooting that long (about 8 or 9 months) and what I'm looking for is a club that will be welcoming to a new shooter who may not know all of the ins and outs of Wildfowling. I have had a brief email chat with the NSW but nothing was really mentioned to the helping of a new shooter. (well that's how I read it). So I'm posting on here to hopefully find and talk to some members of each of the clubs so I can see which would be best for me i.e. travel, cost, Friendly members etc.. Many thanks Yogi
