  5. N reg Rav 4, 1998cc, 4 good AT tyres(done less than 12000 miles) MOT till 3rd August. Engine sound and pulls well with no leaks etc. Cam belt and water pump kit fitted last year. I have used it as my shooting wagon for the last 5 years and she hasn't let me down. The bad bits are, poor paintwork with a few dints ,scratches and a few rust spots though nothing serious. Worn bush on drive shaft which causes a bang on the floor pan if the clutch is engaged quickly. Heat shields rattle on start-up but quieten down enough not to scare the rabbits off. She has done 133K+ but still lots of life left in her. She would make a great shoot wagon for someone or she may, with a bit of TLC, get through another test. £350 ono Thanks for looking. PM me with any questions or offers.
  6. I have recently been seeing loads of bunnies out on one of my permissions were before we saw very few. I was wondering if there is a sustainable take rate per year from an area of X number of rabbits to ensure their survival; as on most of the permission we only shoot them for the pot. Also is there any way of assessing the size of a colony of rabbits to aid the calculation of the take rate? I do like having the rabbits around and they taste delicious but there is no need, and I don't want, to wipe them out totally otherwise there wont be any for the pot in years to come.
  7. Took a walk this afternoon with the .17hmr. Ended up with 12 all between 60 to 150yards.
  8. 63 year old agricultural engineer looking for pigeon or vermin control shooting in the Chatham Lyminge area of kent. Happy to tractor driving or other odd job in exchange
  9. I am looking for shooting opportunities within reasonable driving distance from Hemel Hempstead. I have 12g shotguns and .22 air rifle. I am a member of BASC and have the associated insurance. Can do Walk Up or Hide+Decoys. Would consider one off (free/paid - please state price), short-term or anything longer. I am available most days except Saturdays. Thanks Martin
  10. Hi, I'm 27, have recently moved to the Newmarket area and am looking to settle back into my shooting again as soon as possible. Ideally I'm looking for a local friendly syndicate for the 2015 game season and also for some pigeon shooting, walked-up vermin control on an ad hoc basis over the summer. I'd really like to hear from anyone who might want a mate to accompany them on outings or to help out when a second gun really helps. I have a couple of shotguns, appropriate insurance and over 10 years shooting experience. Thanks, Sean
  11. Hi chaps in need of a morale boost as some of you guys know i have a very small permission which isn't good at all to be on. The land owner will only allow me to shoot over it which is great and i feel privileged but can be lonely at times i wouldn't mind if i was busy but the rabbits over there don't exists anymore. So as you can imagine i have been looking about to join people on other permissions hopefully find some nice land owners/shooters who don't mind me having a shoot with them or lamping buddy but of course i wouldn't ask for this until they know me well enough. That said i have knocked on more doors than i can remember rang so many golf clubs and to no a vale the land owner said they would happily give a reference to anyone who asks about me as he knows me well but because i haven't had a chance to meet other people mainly due to the fact i am the only shooter allowed over there no one knows me. So getting out with people or gaining new permission is ridiculously hard and this shooting game works as we all know unless your a friend of a friend or know someone close to the land owner/shooter you might as well go whistle as in this area Essex land is so precious and hard to come by because is so heavliy pressured by everyone here. Of course i will keep looking and i have meet some nice chaps (farmers) but everwhere i go they dont know me and of course they already have a group of people shooting who keep it to themselves which is understandable around here and concidering i wanted to get into a little bit of gamekeeping which life hasnt taken me that way i am doing badly on the shooting front lol. So chaps i am asking you to give me a morale boost to make me feel better and to keep knocking on them doors maybe share your past experiances on how you struggled to get your first permisson and if you didnt struggle and strolled into having a place to shoot please dont let me know it will only depress me. Up for a laugh. Nick. P.s. If you know anyone around the essex area looking for a shooting buddy / shooter please PM would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Hello folks I've been target shooting (0.22LR, NSRA member) for a couple of years now; just before moving to Gravesend from London in December I got myself an Air Arms S410: mainly with the intention of keeping the feral ******** off my sweetpeas and for a bit of rabbit for the pot, given the chance. FAC has 0.22 and a slot for a .308 (both for targets). Will probably get a hunting .223 and a shotgun ticket in a few years. Rumour has it there's a gunsmith somewhere at the end of Thong Lane—anyone heard about that? Could be useful in a couple of years... Anyway, main question: rumour also has it that the farmers off Thong Lane tolerate if not encourage vermin & game shooting. Anyone know them? Just off to check out the BASC too, but you look like smart people cheers
  13. Hi all I know this is not the best way of gaining permission but I thought it would be worth a try. I am look to get permission to shoot in surrey. I have been helping a pal out for the past 2 years on 2 farms in Kent where he has his permission. Due to family ties (2 young children and a 9 month baby) I am looking to get my own area nearer to home. In Kent we were mainly helping with the pigeons and lamping the rabbits (now and again). I would be looking to do the same locally as I have all the equipment for both and a truck. I have my shotgun licence and BASC insurance (full licence). I also have a good understanding on how to look after the owners land. If anyone can help, advise or point me in the right direction, please feel free to reply. Thanks in advance and I look forward to any responses. Sam
  14. Hello all, Possible new permission coming up (rabbits, pigeons, crows, rats) and i just had a few questions really as i am told it is quite a small field: 1. What would be the smallest size field i would be able to shoot in (in regards to safety)? I am just thinking rough shooting at the moment. 2. Where would i stand on the fact there are no crops in the field? Hay is baled there though be it in very small quantities. I would mainly be using a shotgun 12 bore. Occasional use of a .22 sub 12ftlbs air rifle. There aren’t any neighbouring houses however the field i am told is surrounded by other fields owned by another farmer/landowner. Thanks in advance
  15. We all know that rabbit populations can be affected by the weather and the local crop rotation year on year and mixy will have a massive impact. This year there is a massive rabbit population problem in our area. They are everywhere in massive numbers. What is interesting is that we are seeing very few signs of foxes. I have actually left fresh rabbit out near the Warrens overnight to see if they disappear and they are always still there whole in the morning. They get picked at during the day but the carcass is still there so that will be crows and magpies. Don't get me wrong, I detest foxes as much as the next man, but do you think it possible that we have altered the natural balance a bit to far. In all honesty we could do with a few foxes to help out. (Never thought I would hear myself saying that)
  16. Hi all ! just a quick post from a newbie I have recently been asked to shoot a small piece of land to control the rabbit population and protect the land. noise could be an issue as I will be shooting weekdays after work. I have at my disposal a 12G with normal and subsonic carts , and an air rifle although I would not like to use this its 30 odd years old hw35 and probably underpowered. should I buy a 410 Hushpower just for this permission? I am new to shooting rabbits when should I be looking to shoot times and periods of the year ? do I need any other kit ? im presuming with rabbit I can walk through the area shoot 1 or 2 and return later once the spooked gain more confidence ? should I be lamping or will daylight hours suffice? what is the done thing to dispose of excess dead rabbits after a shoot ? any help guidance tips would be much appreciated as Im hoping this small permission could lead to larger ones.
  17. Hello, I'm sure everyone knows just how hard it is to find some land to shoot on, I would like guidance on the subject, I'm looking at shooting rabbits, I have a air rifle 11.5ft/lb(borrowing) and quite familiar with it, I would like some guidance on the best way to approach and get permission to shoot on land, there is a local golf course about 10 minuite walk from my house and when going for a stroll last night I must have seen at least 60 rabbits I would like to go ask permission from them but I don't know the best way to so this, I know it's a 50/50 chance as getting permission I got plenty of pictures and videos of the rabbits as proof of there numbers and of damage they are doing, but there is one big disadvantage for me, I'm only 17!! I have just joined basc as a jounior airgunning member (u21) as I thought it might give me a little help in getting permission, as it will look better for me having it as it comes with basic insurance ect... I will also be going to local farms to seek permission so I need all the help I can get! Many thanks Alex
  18. Hi, I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this has been asked many times before. Me and my cousin live near Stevenage, in Hertfordshire, and have owned air rifles for a few years now. I do regular target shooting and have done the occasional bit of pest control on a local farm but am struggling to gain land permission. I have knocked on many farmer's door but with no success. Is anybody aware of any local places to shoot or needs any help controlling pests on any land that they own. I am able to shoot Rats, Rabbits, Pigeons, Squirrels, Crows, Magpies, all of the suitable quarry for an air rifle. I am responsible and will get covered with BASC if I am able to get shooting permission. Any response will be much appreciated, thank you.
  19. Hello everyone looking to see If there is anyone with permission in the Bristol/Bath and surrounding area that would let me come out shooting with them or let me shoot on their permission ? fully licenced and insurance (BASC) for 10 year.. I've got my own Shot Guns and air rifles, and all the gear that's needed. I'd appreciate any chance to get out & would be prepared to pay a few quid for the privilege if need be, happy to return the favour when I get my own permission. if any one can help out and fancy meeting before going out shooting please P.M me and can go from there. Thanks in advance Dave.
  20. Hello all PW members, Hope your week has been better than mine, I was out on the field in last nights rain and although I was in a full water proof outfit I still got soaked. Still a bad day on the field beats a good day at work. Now for the spot of bother bit, as some of you know i enjoy shooting as much as the next PW member however i am fast coming into a spot of bother, the permission i have has basically ran out of rabbits. I am the only shooter on the land which inst very big, other than the land owner so its not because of to many shooters, i have just shot them all. Which is great for the land owner but bad for me. This as much as i hate to say it a plea for help, with next to no rabbits to shoot my rifle is fast collecting dust. If anyone out there can help me with nights/days out and about on their permission i would be forever be in your favor even if its just lamping until you get to know me. I am no fool when it comes to shooting and fully understand this does not give me permission to shoot on your land/permission and likewise for whom ever helps me. Although i wont be able to repay whomever with shooting on my permission, not unless you wish to shoot grass because that's all about there is now. I am more than willing to return the favor in what way i can and hopefully meet a new good friend along the way. Of course i am fully insured with BASC and if your wondering i have a F.A.C Sako Quad .22 Rim with Moderator. Also i am thinking of putting in for a HMR soon so i would love for anyone who has this and/or higher caliber rifles to give me tips and tricks, never can have too much experience, likewise for me if your an Air Gunner with F.A.C cleared land/permission i would be more than happy to safely teach, and hopefully help you to gain a F.A.C as a way of repaying you for your good deeds. Please PM me if you can help me out, If not thanks for the time you took to read this many thanks Nick.

  22. Hi all, I'm Rich, and new to the PW forum. I'm a thirty-eight year-old airgunner, forager and general lover of all things country-sports. I've spent a long time shooting targets and plinking, and would be out taking some Woodies and Rabbits and other vermin, were it not for the lack of a permission to shoot on! I'm keen to meet other shooters/ hunters around these parts (or further afield; I have transport) for shooting, beer and enjoying the outdoors, so feel free to get in touch! Rich
