y do pellets cost more than real bullets

Recommended Posts

RIGHT! Back to the question at hand.

Shotgun cartridges will cost more, due to the greater weight of lead, brass and the cost of primers.

Rimfire ammunition has a small amount of volatile impact explosive which is stuck to the bottom of the brass case. This means the round doesn't need a primer, hence 'rimfire' as the firing pin hits the rim of the case.

Shotgun cartridges have a primer, which will cost a lot more than the process of making a rimfire round. They have a lot more lead and nitrocellulose powder, so all this bumps the price up.

Also, the demand on shotgun cartridges will push the price up too. For example, you might expect 'High Pheasant' cartridges to go up in price around September/October time
