ForeignGadger
Sorry to say this, but your problem could well be linked to AOL. They have a long history of screwing up Internet Explorer for folks. Malware bytes is very good for finding Trojans and other stuff (Malware), so good advice to get that. If you don't have a virus programme, or you have some free stuff which came with the computer, and you haven't kept it up to date, or haven't subscribed to keep it up to date after a certain time, (which is very often the case with "bundled software"), then you might try AVG free. I use it and it is very effective: works in the background, keeps itself updated and is free. http://free.avg.com Your problem which "disappeared" is probably Vista resetting itself to an earlier reset point. I would : 1) load both of the programmes above 2) make sure you have the latest update on each programme. 3) run full scans with AVG first, then with Malwarebytes (These may take some time, but be patient). Happy Hacking FG PS : anything with the brand name of Symantec can make your computer painfully slow. They have bought up various programmes in the past, and are making a poor job of integrating them. I would uninstall them, and replace with AVG Malwarebytes CCleaner (cleans dross from your computer quickly and effiently) Vista will do the rest. having a massive problem with my computer, when i try do anything like go on a website either via the serch or from my desktop icons i just end up waiting for 10-15 mins then is says done but all there is is a blank page, its taken me 2 days to be able to get on hear and do this, normaly i would enter this website via my desktop icon, when i click on it after ages it says done in the bottom lefthand corner as done but all im seeing is a blank white screen, and its the same on all my desktop items, and its the same if i try find a website via the google serch option, im on windows vista and on aol 9, never had this problem before, iv tried restarting loads of times but still its the same, this is seriously ******* my life up, please please help me sort this out. cheers, lee

mayfly36
if it happens again, reset your router, if you look at the back off your router, you will find a small hole, use a pen or pin to press the reset button. Then if it still persists as said above, normally its a server problem, AOL.

Delbert
Open Windows Task Manager ctrl+alt+del click on the cpu tab and see whats taking all your cpu time, wauclt is one of the prime suspects , googleupdate if you have chrome and any number of update download managers Virus checkers amongst them . Trouble comes when you have several competeing it becomes a pain and can cause a lockup BTW if you want to do a remote virus scan Housecall does a pretty good job we use it periodically along with the usual checker.
