Spaniel
I have taken a owl decoy out once myself but the crows never seemed to take any notice of it to be honest, but i did have it out in the field, maybe it would be better situated where they are nesting ..... I have only ever seen impressive results when using a Taxidermied owl.
Frenchieboy
Dave, I tried one exactly the same but didn't get anything to mention come in to it so I changed the colour of it by painting it brown (Similar colour and pattern to a European Eagle Owl), it did bring a few maggies and crows in but not enough to "write home about" so I gave up on it. Mind you, when I had a Harris Hawk she used to get mobbed by what seemed like every crow within a mile whenever I flew her. I guess they can tell the difference between a plastic one and a live one! Then again it could be something to do with the way that birds and animals see colours differently to the way that we see them. Good luck with it!
