Moles again.

I find that when I am setting my traps there are alot of tunnels that do not seem to go anywhere. In other words I usually lift a square of turf to see 2 holes, one in and one out. Sometimes I just seem to have dug into a dead end (see hole go in but just cannot find the exit) so I dont bother setting the trap there. Any of the more experienced trappers got an explanation please?

i have found this, and when digging it out to find out why, i noticed it was a T shaped ending. i set a tunnel trap at the junction, and it worked fine.

[/quote I do have a good old poke around and there are no other runs out. I do know the kinds you mean though.

dont worry Vole, it took me a while to find, but there is an exit in there. i could not understand why there were dead ends, but once i found the junction, i soon got em. keep at it mate. I love the feeling of checking the traps, not knowing how well you have done.

I am just the same. Nothing better than cleaning up a field or two.It reminds me of checking my set lines on the beach when the tide went out. The badgers had had a good old dig at mine today. I would not mind if they ate them when I caught but they had triggered my traps by digging down the sides to see if they had anything in. I will follow your advice and dig around a bit more. It does seem a coincidence that I had dug into the very end of the run. Repeatedly.

Hi

am having a bad day,so sorry about the spelling.

This works ,and am not joking.

The best way to get rid of a mole other than kill it,is to put a mothball down the hole.

This will not kill the mole but ,it wont come back, they hate them.

This does work!

cheers scott

I trap the moles at my place but can't have traps around in the summer. Someone told me about the mothball trick and i gave it a good go. All i found was the mothballs dug out with all the other waste from there tunnels, I tried a couple more times and the mothballs were always dug out. I guess my moles might have had a cold or something. So a few discreat(?) traps done the job.

The green keepers on the local golf course use smoke pellets, the ones you use for checking chimmneys,The have said that the smoke fills the void or chamber left by the burrowing mole.

they have had good results from using this method but Im not sure if its a good idea :ernyha::lol:

I asked them how come they use the smoke pellets and they said by the time the moleman called they had that many complaints from the golfers that they had to do something about it themselves quick

Hi,

You buy a 2 bedroomed house because it's big enough. However, later on you may like to build an extension, if you get my drift. Use 3 prodders, finding run with one, prod, say, right to check run still there and then same to left. If you hit all three you're in a run, 2out of 3 and as you say you've hit a dead end and leave it.
