Hi

my wife has applied and got her SGC and despite telling the FEO that we would be sharing the gun cabinet and guns there is no mention of the guns on her certificate, should they be on there, also when buying a gun the seller fills the relevent part of the cert but who fills in the second cert?

never been in this situation with shared guns before so no idea how to sort.

Many thanks Vulture.

I'm in the same situation and all my guns appear on my wife's cert. I've no idea who fills out the 2nd certificate though and its not something I've thought about until now. Although you are legally entitled to possess any gun temporarily without having it on your certificate so I suppose it isn't all that important...

Interested to know the answer though.

Bad idea, sharing guns on each others Certificates. If one of you looses your Certificate for some reason, you both could loose your guns. The best way is for you to keep your guns on your Certificate any your wife buys one put it on her Certificate then you can both use each others guns at any time. The only time they will have to be put on each others Certificates would be if you or your wife went away with each others gun for more than three days as you can loan a gun for a maximum period of 72 hours without putting it on your Certificate. So stick to individual guns on indivdual Certificates do not both duplicating Certificates. if you decide to buy her a gun it can go on her certificate

( my wife and son have SGC but no Guns on them they just use mine)

All guns in the cabinet have to be on both the certificates, as both parties have access. The general rule is that you never write on your own certificate, so you write your guns on hers, or she writes her guns on yours.

I'm in North Yorkshire and my guns are on my cert and gf's gun is on hers, shared cabinet. I'm with Martin!

I read the legislation at length and can't find that clause anywhere.

She can go in the cabinet now and borrow either of mine for 3 days if she wants. All legal and above board.

When my GF lived in Lancs they wanted guns on both certs.

The usual course of action with shared cabinets is that all guns go on both certificates, usually guns already held should appear on the second certificate - (if the second certificate is not submitted as often as the first, ie when the first becomes full, the guns will be 'printed' as in the case of the first when it is submitted for replacement or renewal)

As for adding the guns (in respect of newly purchased) is for them to be 'held' on one certificate and added,(make model and Serial) by whoever has purchased the shotgun (you) with the sellers address and autorirty to hold being annotated ' a shared shotgun held at the overleaf address on cert Number 12345, Mr A Non.'

2x copys of the form FA55 (or similar).... (one for each person who shares the cabinet) to the Firearms Dept as usual.

If you both had different cabinets / or only one person access to the storage facility, then you could add the guns to one certificate and loan in the usual manner, as there is no requirement to have a storage facility until shotguns are aquired.

As you both have acces then they should be shared guns and added accordingly (culpribility and the like)

This is a bit of a grey area and needs the local take on the way the guidelines are interpreted

Give your FA Dept a call to clarify but i assume it should be along the same lines as above

After talking to our FEO, he advised that I add the details of the guns on my cert, to Mrs Lefty ticket and state that the transfer is 'Given' - as in, given access to, not ownership of: which would be 'Sold'.

ATEOTD, as long as your FEO is happy with the arrangement, your chuff is covered. All corespondence to the FA office is cc'd to our FEO and copies are kept.

Everyone's a winner.

When I applied for my SGC I told the FEO that I did not have a gun safe but was going to keep my guns at my fathers address, in his cabinet as he is a licence holder too. They had no problem with this and my licence dropped through my door around 6 weeks later. I expected my fathers guns to be printed on my licence as I now had access to them but this wasn't the case.

I then went and bought a new gun which is only on my SGC and the plod have never questioned it.
