hindhunter
Hi All, Can any one help me with some advice on what equipment i need to buy to start reloading. I don't want to buy cheap stuff and then have to change it for better equipment later on. (Buy cheap - Buy twice) I was thinking about a Foster CO-AX press Bush wear sells them for £275 Are they worth the money. ??
Glensman
If you stall the ball re-loading gear often comes up second hand...
cleaner4hire
I havent heard a bad word said about the co-ax. Its a good choice. Whether its worth the cost depends on how seriously you want to reload and what levels of accuracy are acceptable to you. If you want to squeeze every thou of accuracy then its probably a good buy, if you just want a nice 1/2" 100yrd rifle you can do that just as easily with Lee gear at a fraction of the cost
flytie
I have just gone down this route myself and do not envy you your choices. Most folks i know are either using Lee or RCBS gear and most are using combinations of both sorts of gear. You can spend what you like on it, and if you are bench rest shooting I would think the very expensive gear will be machined to tighter tolerences. But for my sort of shooting which seems to be mainly fox, some deer and some gratuatous plinking on the range the Lee kit will more than cover it. Some of the Lee presses are not very strong, the cast one is. I know two precision engineers locally who are rifle and reloading nuts, and they both use RCBS Rockchucker presses with Lee De-luxe dies. One uses a lyman magnetically dampened scales the other a Lee set. Both like the Lee Perfect powder thrower, but both use a different make of powder trickler. The better quality kit you buy the less you will need to buy as add ons I like the look of the Hornady kit too, with its quick release bushings. If you were swapping calibres regularly I am sure it would save time. Money was an issue with me, I went with the kit that gave me the best value, then I bought some quality calipers etc. to go with it. carthos
watch someone doing it, have a go. you will suss the best way, as some kits are unessacary & items not needed, there is an easy way.
henry d
I have just gone down this route myself and do not envy you your choices. Most folks i know are either using Lee or RCBS gear and most are using combinations of both sorts of gear. I went the Lee Anniversary route and bolstered it with RCBS case trimmer, deburr(the Lee one is pants), flashole, trickler etc. All in all it pays, as said, to watch someone reload and then read and then hands on, that way you will get a feel for how it can be done. Once you have given it a try you won`t regret it.
hindhunter
Cant thank you all enough for your advice. i am not in a hurry so i may watch someone reloading first to get a feel for it. I have just ordered the speer manual (14) to do some research first. I also believe that the BDS occasionaly runs a reloading class, which would be useful. macca
Hi, Buy a delux kit from either Lyman ,RCBS or Hornady. You will save about 30% on buying the components individually. My preference would be Lyman as you get electronic scales, powder thrower case trimmer press etc. Lee make good dies but Im no impressed with cast aluminium for presses. Cheers
