Stealth Stalker
Nick picked me up early this morning for a bit of Munty stalking over on his permission, We decided to double our chances by splitting up and covering both sides of the farm, me heading into the wind where we saw 3 Munties the previous week but were unable to get a shot at them & Nick taking a wide arc of the farm to eventually reach a lie up point where we could both cover a huge acreage of land. After a short stalk around I decided I was best placed lying up on the corner of a wood, because I kept on bumping pheasants, loads of them! considering its un keepered land I can't believe how many pheasant & partridge are about the place, I counted well over 100 birds At my lie up I had pheasant all around me, at one point a lovely hen bird inches from the end of my rifle I think all this pheasant activity was putting off the Munties I text Nick to see how he was getting on. To get a exited reply that he'd had an eventful hour! It turned out that he'd seen a buck & doe heading along a path & he was getting the rifle ready when a woman with a dog appeared He gave her a cheery good morning, even though he resembled a tree, being covered from head to toe in realtree camo let her get along the path before moving off, following in her direction hoping she would bump the munties his way. It wasn't a Munty that she bumped but a bloody great Sika stag :o that sprinted out across the field infront of him. As we were calling it a day I saw through a gap in the hedge a large buck Munty about 400 yds away across the adjacent feild, a quick stalk alongside the wood soon had me 150 yds away and down on the bipod only to see the buck heading slowly away from me towards cover, a quick squeek on the buttalo had him look briefly over his shoulder but I still didn't have an angle for the shot 5 seconds after he'd dissapeared in the cover a jogger appeared exactly where the I last saw the Munty :o So..... no shots were fired from either of us, but we both had a great mornings stalk in beautifull countryside with glorious weather, & hopefully they will be there for another day. Preferably when the dog walkers & joggers decide to have a lie in! SS
Dunkield
Sounded like an eventful morning lads. I stalked a bit of land that was criss crossed with paths busy roads etc, I have to say although there were deer there and we were doing no wrong it just seemed a bit odd seeing people about all the time even very early morning. But at least you know they are there, so with a it of luck next time... Is this the elusive Sika that Gazza was on about SS? Sounds like an escapee from somewhere. I heard the other day that a load of fallow were released on purpose from a deer park not far from where your brother in law (?) lives
Beardo
you missed out that fact that just as i lined up on the first Muntjac (and just before the dog walker appeared and scared them away) a fox ran directly between me and it. no more than 20 yards away. we got there just as the sun was rising, it was so beautiful watching the mist slip across the fields. absolutely amazing morning, makes you glad to be alive. al4x
I was going to say didn't think there were any Sika round here, bucket and bucket loads of fallow and muntjacks though. Was it misty as anything as it was here. Bumped a few fallow and young walking the dog in the mist and lovely to see, the bucks were rutting early on in the week the first time I'd heard the fallows near me at it
Beardo
never seen any Fallow here, only usually Muntjac. But this was most definitely a Sika. And there's been a Sika stag seen a couple of miles away by Gary/SS etc. - could be the same one. Was very misty at first, but very quickly burnt off, to just leave nice wisps in the tree shadows and hollows.
garyb
There are Sika in these parts, it seems... I've seen one Now that one's been spotted by Nick, I doubt it's the same, not unless it managed a hitch hike round the M25 and up the A1 ?! I know exactly where that deer park is, the end of his road SS

Beardo
here's a few pics from that day, and also Mondays stalk. The Muntjac in the last shot, we could almost walk up to (sod's law, we'd put the rifles away and had then gone for a walk with the shotguns!). not the greatest quality as taken with my phone. Stealth Stalker
Now I know why you didn't see that fox 80 yds to your left, you were to busy snapping away
Beardo
i had my crosshairs trained 6 inches in front of you as you walked that hedge, that's the correct lead isn't it for a human at 300 yards? bolt was back, don't worry (and i was looking at you through the bins). you can see why i didn't see that fox, hard left was obscured by the tree root bowl
