Traztaz
Lee has it pretty much tied up, we need more energy on target and the ability to hit these **** when they are behind a wall, we had it with the old 7.62 NATO round but have lost it with the 5.56.Whoever it was that put the 6.5 link on their quote of my origional post , Thankyou, it says it all. PaulABF
If the Taliban are hiding behind a wall in any of the compounds then sadly, even the much missed SLR wouldn't do much good. Similarly the .50 doesn't do much good. In the same vein, 30mm from the Apache's won't penetrate either. At the moment we're using bar mines as a mousehole charge to breech the walls or, if the ROE dictate, a 500Ib does the trick. Amazing what mud and animal dung will produce. We should build armoured vehicles out of it.

PaulABF
A 500lber is about 6ft long and dropped from fast air. The 500IB part is the weight of the steel casing. A daisy cutter is a the size of a people carrier weighing around 15000lb dropped from a C130 transport.

PaulABF
It's not a case of just turning Afghanistan into glass. The Afghan people are, on the whole, the kindest most loyal people you could ever hope to meet. It's just a shame it happens to border Pakistan where the vast majority of the 'Taliban' come from. rjimmer
I know of one chap in basic that wanted to get out of the army so he decided to shoot himself through the wrist to get drummed out of the service? The bullet entered the wrist on his left arm and left through his neck.. So that's how that story/myth/rumour started. "Armalite bullets are designed to be unstable so that they climb up the limb" We had some chaps out beating a few years ago who came from, I think, Exeter prison(staff). One was telling me that the kevlar vests that they had tested would stop most bullets but not an Armalite bullet. I presume the were testing FMJ's.
