Ozzy Fudd
Thats cos beretta is betta :( everyones giving their 2p's worth, so i might as well too.... work out what you want, synthetic, 3 1/2" chamber, etc, then try a few different guns out. doesnt matter what everyone else thinks, the only thing that matters is if the gun fits you and you can shoot ok with it, be that if its a beretta, an escort or whatever. if youre worried about the gun holding its value or looking good, then go for some of the bigger names (beretta, benelli, etc). when it comes to semi auto's personally i found benelli's are the best - extrememly lightweight, easy to strip+clean (mostly inertia cycled, so no gas parts, etc) hold theyre value and they keep the snobs happy... also a couple of years back i picked up a 2nd hand montefeltro for £245, and it kept its value when i traded it in for another mossberg too
throdgrain
I'd buy a Benelli over a Beretta as well. I think they're both good guns though.
Paladin
Good secondhand has to beat budget new anyday. Find a good dealer that will let you try and compare and see what suits you (Thats why you see so many diferent types of guns available) :( Ask this question on a diferent forum and you would probably be looking at a Remington Ya pays ya money and ya takes ya choice New Fiat or secondhand BMW Paladin
