Spaniel
It was more a case of id them while they were flying around but also when they were well out on the marsh itself. I only get true sillouette exposure while out accompanied on the marsh, but its a different ball game completely but i am getting there
henry c
No you can not shoot mandarins. They might be feral , but that does not mean you can shoot them. I just wondered because the butchers near me often has game hanging up, I once saw teal, mallards and mandarins on the rack, which had clearly been shot with the rest! I wouldnt shoot one, but am still interested if they are legal quarry. I suppose its strange because if you kept some as pets / livestock youd be allowed to kill them, same with the Wood ducks. Also if you can't shoot mandarins can you not shoot call ducks and other mallard derived species? what it they are cross-bred with a mallard? Does anyone have an answer? MPT1
I think all animals should carry ID. Especially the foriegn migrants.

Spaniel
Believe me i never took them Part of wildfowling ID was not just recognising the birds you can shoot but also the birds you can not....as Kent mentioned in the dark it is hard to recognise wildfowl and it takes plenty of time to be able to complete this.....but nothing like getting out and learning
