bsg
basicly with the past 2 hours my sisters 9 month old jack russel cross border terreir has gone to ground down a drainage pipe which must be 200m or more long. the biggest problem is, is that the amont of noise coming out of the pipe leads me to belive there is a fox or badger down there with her. and down to the age and the fact it is a pet not working dog has got me and my sister very concerned. how am i gonna get thwe dog out of pipe without haming it as it is to deep to dig and to long to push out? the dog doesnt have a locator collor on it as its only a pet so there is no way of knowing exactly where it is. vulpicide
Where are you? go online and check The Fell & Moorland working Terrier club and see if there is a rep near you if so phone for advice. Try and find the other end of the drain if you can. If you follow the line of the drain you may be able to hear the terrier above ground if you place youre ear to the ground above the drain and listen for rythmic bumping or better still the terrier baying.PM me if you need more info. Al Downie
I take it you've tried shining a light down in there? Is the pipe wide enough for the dog to turn around in? Get some smelly food (cheese/fish) and blow the scent into the pipe?

t jack
fell & moorland offer a terrier rescue service, failing that get someone who digs terriers over to help you out, they should be able to locate the terrier for you by various means. good luck, and try not to panic, terriers have been known to survive for several days underground.
