njc110381
Oh man, has anyone looked out of the window recently! I've got a stalking day booked for tomorrow and the forecast is terrible! Now's not a good time to realise that the waterproofs aren't that great but has anyon got any recommendations for a chap but reasonable stalking outfit? Padded trousers and a medium weight jacket would be ideal, is there anything about for reasonable money?
Harnser
You really should have a look on Cabellas web site . I bought a pair of bib and brace trousers and matching cammo jacket with detatchable lineing with gortex waterproofing for less than 200 bucks . I bought mine the last time I was in the states ,but I understand they mail order to the uk . Harnser .
Dunkield
Speak to Drovers Forget designer labels and go with army goretex if you want save money, if money is no object then spend 400 quid on a Ray Mears smock. We were out in torrential rain for about 6 hours and that was the only thing that didn't leak, not a drop got through.
flytie
I've just bought some Seeland Brandon trousers from John Norris, reduced in the sale! Less than £40.00 a pair. They are waterproof, i've just walked the dog in a torrential downpour and am still dry. I used to buy Deerhunter trousers but got sick of the buttons on the rear pockets snagging and coming off, so i thought I would try Seeland. They fit me better than Laksen trousers and are more waterproof than the Laksen Sika trousers I stupidly parted with cash for Can't beat a Deerhunter jacket for being affordable, I bought a Montana in a sale that has the zip out fleece, perfect for cool autumn/spring and (with the fleece in) winter days. Washable but needs reproofing at the same time as washing. There are always some good deals on Montana jackets. As you are not a stupid shape like me (I buy coats by the acre) you could try the seeland brandon jacket from john norris too, but I have never owned one so can't testify to the water resistancy. Loki
Hiya I concur with H - Cabelas gen.I & gen II Camo Parka and Trousers for about 100US + P&P with goretex liner (price taken from the 2005 Shooting Catalogue as cant find the latest to hand) should provide more than adequate protection against inclemental weather at a fair/good price. I have had these awhile now and dont worry about testing if my skin is waterproof..... They also do a bib n brace version in a plain olive drab. Alternatively try Jahti Jackt from Arctic Outdoors - several friends and I have a set of these also and found them fit for prupose. bicykillgaz
get on to arctic outdoors like loki said, i have a jahti jakt suit i paid £180 for it and you get a thermal base layer top + bottoms, fleece mid layer top + bottoms, a fleece jacket, jacket (loads of pockets, detachable hood, mozzy head net), trousers, reversable baseball cap, and a hi-viz vest i've had mine for 21/2 years its all been through the wash loads and is still waterproof. its well made gear i'd put it on par with all the deerhunter stuff if not better.
njc110381
Thanks for the replies chaps. I was thinking about the Jahti Jakt kit but couldn't for the life of me think of the name. I may try it out. I have army goretex stuff and also a Remington camo suit which I bought in Canada, but neither look that great. I took the Remmy suit in the end and sat out four hours in a high seat without it letting any water in. It's a nice suit, it's just too hot and looks silly. I'm not a fan of camo. It was a pretty non eventful day. I think we were the only people stupid enough to be out in that rain. There were around 25 Fallow in the field as we drove up, but by the time we'd got out to where we'd seen them they'd dropped back into the woods. That was the last we seen of them! Oh well, better luck next time. It was only £60 per head with no trophy fees and the chance to take more than one for no extra cost. There were a lot of tracks and droppings around too. I think on a good day this place would have a lot to offer. I was glad to be invited and I'll be going back.
Nel
I was going to get a jahti jakt suit but realised i had better things to spend my money on so bought a Jack Pyke combo. they do it in green & camo. I am Very pleased with it after thinking it would be a bit cheap & nasty. Very cozy & keeps the wind & wet at bay.
