Lord Geordie
I have a few friends who live over Cumbria. One just moved there last month but luckily I know geologically speaking BOTH live well above any flood plains. Last time I went shooting over there though the fields were in a real mess mud up to our knees not nice really
Pipmoff
I took the dogs out for a walk yesterday round one of our fields, on the way I went through the local village to find that the road was closed, the pub and houses by the pub had all flooded through the night. When I arrived at our land I found that the bottom of the field was now about a 6 acre lake along with the golf course next to it. Just then my step dad rang me to say if I was heading out there I might get a bit wet. He had stopped off to check the sheep on his way up to the fell, and ended up being upto his backside in water rescuing 25 lambs that were stranded down the bottom of the field. One lamb that was blind had drowned but all the others were acounted for. The dogs had a great time though in the water and I might just go and do some decoying for the ducks that were knocking about next week. happyhunt
thankfully we were missed by the major floods,3 mile away, but the place is a disaster zone, the police man was well known and a nice guy,a real shame. all bridges are being surveyed all the time, the last bridge in workington has just been written off,its dropped 12" from the road so can't be used any more. that means the last bridge near cockermouth is the only route east/west,and that has been closed for days, if it fails to reopen then its a 3-4 hour detour via carlisle the M6/penrith. missed a days shooting on sat due to the road being under water at holmrook, south cumbria ,at the moment we are still landlocked, but thats nothing compared to what some people have /are going through at the moment. the icing on the cake is that its still raining and is forecast to continue well into the week, me thinks the army will have to be called in to erect temporary bridges other wise this place is going to turn into a refugee camp very quickly wet soggy ***** all round, poo
