beezer
can anyone sujest why my BSA 243 has started playing up? When I work the bolt to cycle another round sometimes the bullet misses the extractor and jumps out of the gun base first or the bolt catches the round amidships. I am useing it as a single shot at the moment.
palombier
Beezer I'm not sure this is necessarily the answer but give the bolt a thorough clean(disassemble if necessary),especially around the extractor claws. you may be surprised how much dirt and grime gets clogged in them. I had problems with a bolt on one of my rifles and this did the trick. Good luck P
dunganick
have you checked firstly that your gun has the correct type of extracter claw to load without using the magazine (assuming this is what you mean by single shot) it could also be a result of short stroking the bolt, i have little experiance with this model rifle, so cant be of great help im afraid. if it keeps up take it to a gunsmith
beezer
hi guys I've given everything a thorough clean and it's improved a bit. Now only the first shell out jumps, 2&3 cycle OK. I guess I can manage with a 2 shot 'till I can afford a better.
the last engineer
one other thing to look at is the wear on the extractor claw/s, if they do not hold a sharp or keen edge they will not grab the round securely ,i have had wear on claws before ,you can re-hone but its temporary ,tis best to replace them . Devilishdave
Small chips of brass can get wedged around the ejector and cause feed problems a cure for this can be to remove ejector and chamfer the hole very slightly with a dremel. it sounds like it might agrivate the problem but it does'nt. Sergeant
Not sure what sort of ejector thats fitted to you rifle, but if there is a claw on the exit side and a little spring loaded ram on the other, check, with an empty, that it has enough power in it to push the case out. you have to have the bolt out to do this, and push the base of the case on to the bolt face. beezer
Thank's for the input fellas. It seems as though the bullet is not getting it's nose up and the whole thing jump's clear of the bolt base first. The extractor claw is a semicircular affair on the top of the bolt. I've taken it off and cleaned it.
