Guest Callum.
Ok.I'm trying my best not to fill it with lead.Any ideas?Small stones?Sand?Would they work. Anything you can find on a farm (hopefully we'll have some) or around one,I'm surrounded by rivers, forests and countryside so I should be able to find something But what do you suggest to fill it with?I don't particularly want to go out and buy something. Blunderbuss
Why not lead? Piece of steel rod or old bolt with the head cut off, then drill a hole to accommodate. But I'd use lead
docholiday
Why not use lead, its easy to poor an finish ? I have made a few this way and all easy. not sure sand etc would be heavy enough
Guest Callum.
I don't know if i have lead lying around. And im not sure about melting it in a pan. And I certainly don't trust myself with liquid lead.
Blunderbuss
There's an ounce or so in a 12 bore cartridge, Ideal Cut the crimp off and pour shot. If it's small shot you shouldn't need to melt it at all, just pack it tight. You could drip some epoxy or melt some candle wax over it if you wanted to but I wouldn't bother. docholiday
Callum Not sure how old you are, you have not mentioned in your profile, but you can get an adult to help. Drill out antler, heat lead in old pan -not one you will use for anything else put antler in a vice and poor in lead, wear protective gloves Most will have learnt this from making fishing weights as kids, hope this helps doc

docholiday
I just drill out the antler base as much as ***. try to get at least 1" in depth. I dont bother putting anything over the lead. will depend on type of antler and what you want to use priest for, I use Roe and use them for tapping Pheasent on head or smaller fish, whitting etc doc

TomV
I'm thinking of making one of these myself. Does anyone have a spare deer antler that would be suitable?
Llanshooter
Callum I've made ethse and found that a 3 ounce lead sea weight can be trimmed to fitt the hole drilled in the antler and tapped into place with a hammer. If you want to cap it you can get pieces of black buffalo horn on Ebay, which you can cut to shape. Glue on with araldite epoxy glue, and polish up with fine sandpaper and 000 gauge wire wool. I know that you don't bash bibles but don't bash bishops either!
