You should do well with the 28 there is somthing about the relative dimentions in the 28 that causes nearly all 28's to pattern extreamly uniformly.

I have two 12's and one 20 as I never shoot over 40 yards I cannot comment on their extended range, everything else is identical (at least ballistically).

I was at a clay club on sunday watching a competent shot.  The stand he was shooting was a pair of looping midis, one at 25 yards and one at 35-40 yards on report.  To my amazement when he came away from the stand I realised he was shooting a 28 bore.  Many 12 bore users struggled on that stand.  Theres obviously a lot to be said for the 28 bore.

Supergame,

A keeper friend of mine uses a 28 bore, he was using it on his keepers day at the end of this season.

I was surprised at the range he was knocking birds down with such a small bore!

He brought it for his 11 year old son to use, but he has fell in love with it and wont let his son near it.

                         All the best

28 bores are very good guns. I borrowed one ( a Berreta 686) on a pheasant day instead of my 12 or 20 bore and hit more due to faster swing and i shot 29 and only 1 of them was wounded! What more can i say? N.B. most of the birds were 30+ yards and the gun was choked at improved cylinder and quarter and i was using RC 21gram fibre wad 7's ! When i can afford to spend £1000 or so on a new gun i'll be buying a 28 bore.
