 When shooting ferrals it often happens that one or two racers that have gone wild will be found amongst the shot birds.

Whilst this can not be avoided and also the owners,if traced would say that a bird that joins up with ferrals is of no use to them, I would remind people that you have committed an illegal act by shooting them, intentionally or not.

I have made this point before certain members get uptight about a couple of posts I have removed.

Yeah but if you do end up shooting one the trick is not to tell anyone!

game boy, that is exactly the point I was making but trying to be a bit more subtle about it. :<

Least of all posting it on a forum for all to see, or haven't you noticed that people are out looking for the smallest excuse to drive more nails into the shooters coffins?

Driving at say 36mph in a 30 is also an illegal, but we still do it

Driving at 36 in a 30 you know you are doing it, when lining up the head shot do you run the scope down and check the leg for a ring  and if it has one ask him to leave quitely so you can get the others B):lol:

Dont think so.

Just bin them with the rest of the bird, unless you are eating them so just loose the legs :D

:< Yes I agree but if over 3/4 of the population were trying to ban driving , would you still be so keen to brag about it on an open forum?

As Country estate says, we are aware of the fact that we are speeding but I certainly wouldn't be able to spot a ring on a bird that was sitting on a barn roof or inside it.

My apologies ernyha for my earlier comment,

as many forum members say it is difficult when using a shot gun to pick out those birds which have rings and those that have'nt. :*)

The best thing is to say nowt.

I have now read up more on the legality of it all from B.A.S.C. since your reply.

Thank you

HV

Well, to put another view into the thread and to re-inforce an earlier view, I have an interest in both sports, shooting and racing pigeons, If one of my racers was to go feral and join a flock of true ferals and somebody shot it, you would'nt hear me complaining. I know lots of racing pigeon men and without exception they would all say the same.

We all know the legality side of the situation and these "feral racers" are usually shot by accident when mixed in with true ferals. What is annoying is when your racers get shot at when they are racing for home and in a bunch of what is obviously all racing pigeons, this situation is not going to affect the airgunners but I have seen it by decoyers, they are easy to tell apart, the racers tend to fly straighter, faster and in a tighter bunch. If you are not sure, don't shoot.

I have been decoying myself and the farmer had asked us to take the ferals too and we shot one or two with rings by accident, it happens.
