Last weekend

I cant believe its the last weekend of the pheasant season :P

Where do the months go, it seems five minutes since the first day.

Me and my shooting buddies spend the next few weeks roost shooting and talking about how much clay shooting we're going to do, to improve our

shooting for next season.

But then, as every other year the rifle comes out and the shotguns stay in the dark.

Then all next season we'll moan about how we've not had chance to "get me eye in"

Happy days.

Can't believe its nearly over either, but it'll not be long coming back round again. My spring/summer will be spent plinking with my .22lr (if the PSNI ever get their act together and get my FAC back), getting the pen ready for next seasons arrivals and training my 8 month old springer who has already showed great promise in the field this winter. What will everyone else spend the spring/summer doing?

training my springer once the clear evenings come in, a we bit of fishing and then hit the crows on freshly drilled fields and once they start at the barley in the summer

I'll post my pics later of our final day, had a good day although it wasn't a huge bag. Monkeyboots, do you get many pigeons down your way in the summer?

Yes a walk round with the keeper and a few mates on monday then roost shooting on saterday a bit of a rest for the Cocker he's done 42 days beating he'll be bored to death so i'll have to get the pigeon decoys out to give him some work, still it will soon be time for a bit of dogging in to keep him happy, now it's up to the spare room to sort out the decoying gear for next week, all the best Pop.

is it true there is a close season in the republic for pigeons? a guy threw us some birds in yesterday and said thats him done. thats me finished with all things feathered and furred now till september. i cant shoot in the spring or summer, my conscience wont let me. ive shot 2 or 3 heavily pregnant rabbits in my life, and i never want to do it again. and yes im sure many will say what a soft ****, but so be it. also couldnt shoot a pigeon with the young sitting on the nest, in the name of pest control. and no, this is not an attack on those who do. im simply saying its not for me. il leave it to the dedicated vermin controllers. i shoot clays solid through march to september.

Well I've still to get my pic up from Sat, finished with 3 pheasants & 3 woodcock. I will keep at the ferreting for another 6 weeks or so and keep at the foxes until lambing time then I usually don't kill anything until I get a chance at decoying towards the end of the summer.
