kipper
Hello chaps, B) Ive recently been out shooting ribbits from a 4x4 with my dad, he tends to hold the hand held lamp and I do the shooting, but this gets a bit tricky at times and a gun mounted lamp would be a great advantage, the gun I use is a air arms S410k and the scope is a niko stirling 3-9-40, I would prefair a lamp that could easily be taken off the gun for daytime shooting, I am also considering fitting a bipod to my gun to make life easier and more accurate when shooting. I dont want to be carrying a tank arround so keeping weight down is a high priority. any advice would be graitfully received thanks chaps

lurcherboy
Well you probably dont want a 2 million candle power lamp Seriously though, I use a Logun on my air rifle and it does me fine, but the distances are not up to FAC. Why don't you ask Deadeye Ive, he lamps regulary, I am sure he would be happy to assist you. LB B)

High velocity
Hi Kipper, given the choice i would not go for the logun lamp it seems to be over rated IMO i bought one after reading all the ads it now has pride of place under the stairs (open to offers) weeks after i bought an Atom and found it 100% better. i dont think that deben do the tracer any more, but for the size and weight i would reccomend the atom. it also has a dimmer. or if you want a more powerfull beam the mini 250 both about £80. unless you intend going for a rimy or centrefire there is no real need to go for the more powerfull lamps as you will only spook your quarry that is way out of range. My Webpage would agree with that about the logun being a nice lamp for what you pay, but well worth going a little more and getting a decent deben with a dimmer switch. as for the bipod optics warehouse do the harris cloes for £35 fixed price all sizes non swivel and £55 again fixed price on all sizes for the swivel version ( must have this one) there a thread about somewhere that i put up with a link to thier site hope this helps you out a bit ROB B)
SNAKEBITE
I have a scope mounted Deben tracer. ACE. A mate of mine had a logun, bought a deben as a backup to use with a night vision scope and then promptly sold the Logun. Speaks volumes. Oh and if funds allow go for the dimmer switch model. Adds versatility to your set up. There is a lamping question started by AXE in the "other types of shooting" forum.

Axe
High Kipper, I have just recently bought my first lamp. I got the Deben Max with a flip down filter. Its a fantastic light, beam goes out to 400m and the easily detached lamp has built windage and elevation. ITs also very light weight though the battery is heavier than some. Total continuous usage is about 1 1/2 hours which is more thasn enough for a good lamp session, plus if your in a vehiclke it also comes with a cigar lighter attachment. As has been said, if you can, go for a dimmer where possible. This would certainly make the Deben Max a truly versatile lamp indeed. As for the pods, don't get anything unless its harris B) . Regards, Axe.
SNAKEBITE
As for the pods, don't get anything unless its harris Although SUSSEX LAD was telling me about a Harris copy that is available. 1/2 - 2/3 the cost of the Harris set up I think he said. Maybe when he reads this he will give a bit more info.

I dont want to be carrying a tank arround so keeping weight down is a high priority. any advice would be graitfully received thanks chaps Kipper Do you intend at some stage going Fac (rim&ctr fire etc )because if you do then go for a powerfull lamp now and make sure it has a dimmer switch If not then my choice would be the Tracer compact cordless ,that is if deben stll do them as i can't find any reference to them on the net but i'm sure they can still be tracked down. It's replacement the Atom is no where near as good i'm afraid but still a good lamp to consider the beauty of both is that the power source is'nt attached to you so no annoying cable to keep getting snagged. I have had my 2 cordless lamps for nearly 8 years and they are both still going strong ............If you look after your gear then it'll look after you Its best to lamp in pairs using one gun and i could talk all night as to why. Incidently the compact cordless comes with a detachable handle and should you decide to get the Deben 400 max pro later on then it'll fit that making it a very handy piece of kit. With lamps you get what you pay for and the same goes for by-pods so my choice would be a harris Axe If your only getting 1.5 hrs lamp time something is wrong .I hope you almost fully discharged your battery before re-charging as this will determine the efficiency of it .It's a good idea to do this several times when it is new . Cheers Ive
