grahamcpotter1977
As previously stated, I'm new to all this. Can someone tell me what the process is in order to get the SGC. Do I send payment with application, do I need a cabinet before granted certificate.....what? I have no idea, but grateful for everyone's input! I'm in Clacton on Sea, Essex....looking to make shooting buddies. Thanks for all help.

HDAV
YOur Local Fire arms dept will send you the forms and the guidance documents that is the first place to start, if you intend to own/keep a gun then you need a cabinet or secure facility to store the gun (if you happen to have a Vault in your home your fine otherwise a BS7558 i think it is approved cabinet) Brattonsound and DJS products are a decent make its reconmended to get a slightly larger cabinet if you can, I got a 4/5 gun although i only have 1 gun at the moment. Cabinet need to be fixed serculey (i.e. Bolted to wall and floor) and be out of sight to a casual visitor (in a cupboard, wardrobe etc) and not be visible fromt eh exterior, some will allow cabinet in a loft but most dont like this and prefer them to be olted to an exterior wall although as long as the wall is solid you should be OK. I had the FEO come and visit before i fitted cabinet to check location was suitable and he would be happy then he came back once fitted and dropped SGC off once he had checked the cabinet was fitted properly. It sounds alot worse than it is and the FEO's are very helpful and will advise on what can be allowed etc. Some useful links for you: http://www.essex.police.uk/contact_us/fire...pplication.aspx http://www.djsproducts.com/ http://www.brattonsound.co.uk/ Edited February 4, 2010 by HDAV
