Hi all dont want to seem like iam trying to run before i can walk but i have just got my shotgun cert and if all goes well will probably go for fac in a few months, is it likely to be any harder to get?

i have about 2000 achre to shoot the problem i have is i do a lot of lamping at night and the crafty bunnies are getting use to my lamp and seem to know that if they do a runner when i get within 50 meters they are safe from my sub 12ftlb so was thinking of a .17hmr

thank colin

The paperwork is slightly more complex than the SGC application,on my Essex police site you can do most of it on line, but you will need to print off two separate sets of referee forms which the referees fill out in private and send back to the licensing officers, the fundamental difference between SGC and FAC is "Good reason" you need none for an SGC and I guess (perhaps) in your case the land cleared by the FEO

Rough rule of thumb is that for the SGC the police need a reason not to issue you it as long as you have the security in hand and want to go shooting clays as the reason. For FAC you need to demonstrate that you have a reason for owning the firearms, and that means permissions or rifle club membership, etc.

FAC is straighforward, just read the forms and hoover up the tons of advice and experience on this forum - good luck!

FAC is the same principal as SGC, if you have permissioned land then you'll have no problems. as for the bunnies, have you tried lamp filters? you might want a couple of 22lrs aswell 1b/a, 1s/a. 22lr is good for rabbits up to 100ish yds ;)

thanks all will do some homework on this site then apply later in the spring,

GRAM71 have heard of .22lr on this site what are they exactly?

The two most popular rimfire rifles (which is where most of us start) are .22LR and .17HMR. There are pros and cons for both but simply put .22LR is much quieter and has cheaper ammo but does not fly as flat or as far as HMR. Personally I think .22LR is the ultimate rabbit basher because it's so quiet. It is harder to shoot as because the bullet path is more arc'd than HMR you need to calculate range and adjust your aim accordingly.

For example, my .22LR when zeroed at 65 yards would hit about an inch high on targets between 25-40 yards.

Bear in mind, the time taken to clear your application can vary so maybe worth applying a bit earlier and don't forget to apply for a silencer for which ever rimfire you go for, they are classed as a separate permission to the rifle so need to be applied for separately.

.22lr ( long Rifle ). proberly the better first choice for you exellent bunny basher!!! shooting subsonic ammo very quiet and cheap also you can fire high velocity rounds for longer range targets. best of both worlds. since you got 2000 acres id put in for a centre fire aswell just to see what they say. if just wanting to shoot rabbits then put .22 hornet aswell ( good out to about 200yds plus ). good luck with it. you dont know if you dont ask
