wacker
Hi all, the clay club i go to held a .410 pro sport comp today & it was really good fun, i took my hushpower & others used webley bolt actions, side by sides, over & unders. it was interesting to see just how much harder it was without 28gramms of lead to help you! Hence **** score :*) Don't say anything Pete if you read this! I also got a chance to try a 12g Hushpower with subs which was as quiet as my .410, & it didn't kick that much. How many of you own & use a .410 & what do you think of them, i think the only problem is the price of the carts, you would have to be a rich man if were dusting clays every weekend! barrie0
Wacker , would that be Cotswold clay club as they had a .410 comp today as well .
dunganick
i think the 410 is great, it teaches you to be a much better shot, the reason being; velocities in the 410 and 12 are very nearly the same, the shot size can be the same, but the pattern size is much smaller, this means that its like running a 12g with full choke out to about 30-35 yards, everything that a 12 can break a 410 can break in the right hands, however past this point the pattern looses density as it has about 1/3 the lead in it and holes start to ruin scores. the gun i use (and will be tomorrow amoung others at the PW clay shoot) is a yidlz s/s single trigger non ejector lovely gun, well made, great wood, shame the triggers are heavy, also got 14 1/2" pull, which means its not very small. wouldnt swap it for the 12, as this gives you a pattern about 50% larger than the 410, but it certainly is a nice toy to have. Gemini
Shot a friends AYA .410 S/S a couple of weeks ago, using magnum shells, and found it a wonderful little gun to shoot. It really does make you concentrate, and the barrels got bloody hot. Great fun though and I would love to own one just for walking around with. G.M. Hardy
Guess that would be Cotswold Clays - was a lot of fun & rather liked your .410 hushpower. I was expecting it to be a lot nosier without subsonics but was amazed at the lack of noise - reminded me of a cap gun I had as a kid (t'was my 12g hush that we were playing with). If I spot a 410 at the right price (probably one of the bolt action ones) think I'll have to aquire one just for fun, although more pricey got to be worth if for the occasional round & a bit of a laugh! henry c
I've got a webley bolt action .410, which i use for a bit of fun now and then. i've found it to be realy powerful and have killed bunnies, crows, pigeons, squirrels and one pheasant with it without any problems. they are great little guns and realy do sharpen your aim: a must for every shooters cabinate. For around £40-50 why not try one.
Cranfield
I also have a Webley bolt action .410 and agree "they are a bit of fun". However, they are very like single barreled 12 bores. I wish I had a pound for every time I have been walking round with one of these weapons and had opportunities presented to me, where I wish I had a double barreled 12 bore with me. I'm not sure they make you a better shot, its really horses for courses.

barrie0
Yes it was mate, how well did you do? In the end I did not have a go , as by the time we had finished our second round of clays it was a bit busy on the pro sport . It sounded like pop guns going off as we walked past , any idea of the final score/who won , and did you see the bloke with the 1860's muzzle loader on the sporting stands . If you did'nt see him you probably heard him as it sounded like a cannon going off , he did hit some though .
henry c
CRANFIELD "I wish I had a pound for every time I have been walking round with one of these weapons and had opportunities presented to me, where I wish I had a double barreled 12 bore with me". Couldnt agree more, this becomes more apparent after you fire and miss, you oftern feel youve just fired air. still i've made some of my most memorable shots with one and for this reason the gun will always stay in my cabinate. Cranfield
I shot my first "tower bird" with my .410, it was a walked up partridge and I was about 15. My friend ( shooting a 20 bore) and I flushed a covey of about 12, from a field of spring greens. The bird I hit flew straight up in the air until it was almost a dot and then folded its wings and fell down stone dead. Some things you never forget. Hardy
Not sure if I'll be there this weekend - may be off up to Yorks for a few days. I'm not sure of the name of the chap who won, think he had 21 - but he was using his own (and very nice too) 410 o/u with 3" mags. He was there with his wife (who I think was runner up!) & a very nice Browning Cynergy Black Ice!
barrie0
He was there with his wife Did he have a tach and not very tall , and his mrs is "well built" ? also if it is the person I am thinking of probably had some young un's with him . As there only seem to be a few regular husband and wives up there .
Big Dog
Have kept a .410 about me for years. Learned to shoot with one. Remember shooting my first bunny, right up the bum and 35 yrs. Stone dead, very little lead on the flesh but when I say up the bum that is what killed him. It was a Webley bolt action .410. My first .410 was a Webley bolt action. It was a peace of scrap should have been retired years ago but I loved it. I shot clay with it a lot, home ranges, loved those incoming birds, like pigeons coming to roost. I finally got rid of it last year and bought a Mossberg pump. It is a lovely gun but to flat for me. I need to get it B) what ever the term is. Some of you guys told me to email Mossberg, I did they replies phone us, cant get the number to work and they never reply my other emails. If you have any ideas on adjusting the gun let me have them.
