Dave-G Posted September 28, 2010 Report Share Posted September 28, 2010 LED's have insufficient red or near infra red light in their spectrum to pass through any of the respective filters. I'm sure the buyers would have stepped forwards to tell us all about them by now if they were any good - but it seems likely they are not too brilliant for lamping if they are honest with themselves. I take no pleasure in stating that every time I point this out in "what lamp" threads there are five or more others saying LED's are the way to go. For pure flashlight work LED's are a major leap forwards in technology with minimal power consumption. For lamping/NV with any kind of filter they are nowhere near as good as incandescent bulbs which have red hot metal filaments - which also drag down batteries quickly as a filament is almost a short circuit.
