Ok, now convinced I'm going to fail my DSC1 this weekend. what is this?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...dents-year.html

I originally thought it was male as I (thought) I could see pedicles and the points where the new antlers will erupt. But as I can't see it's **** I can't use the ID features I have tried to burn into my brain.... I am now doubting that, it just looks too feminine (not good logic I know!) I know what it ain't.....

It aint a Munty

It definately ain't a CWD

AND it isn't a Roe as it doesn't look like a mexican

That leaves Red, Sika & Fallow

I'm plumbing for a young Sika hind as I think I can see what looks like a dark dorsal stripe and there doesn't seem to be much hair in it's ears. It also doesn't look ugly (which I think Red hinds do!!)

Someone put me out of my misery!

Don't feel too bad it's a young 'un so not that easy to ID

Fallow can vary massively in colour from menil to menilistic.

The deer in the picture has the chin of a roe though.

Have a look here for more confusion:

And the plural of Fallow is Fallow, just like the plural of deer is deer, and antlers aren't horns etc..

Its a fallow, if in doubt in the field you would have to wait and look for a penile sheath

doc

Thanks Doc... knew about the penile sheath plus the long tail and border to the cordal patch coming into the white unlike the Sika.

So, a young fallow buck? The neck and chest colour doesn't seem light enough?
