What an added bonus.

When taken out on my first pigeon shoot I did not have the greatest experience. There was 9 people doing end of season roost shooting on a 700 acre game shoot. The total lack of organisation both with the guns and regarding relevant safety did not make for a very rewarding afternoon. So was kindly invited out for a few hours by PW member unclestuffy onto one of his permissions.

Had a great time managed to drop a couple of pigeons, and then we were confronted by a fox. Bold as brass he strutted in our direction over the field, the word from my shooting partner was to “have the "******”! He got to within about 15 yards of our position before he heard us (probably my heart beating) I got away a couple of quick shots which knocked him back a bit but he was off into the under growth. We immediately set off in hot pursuit and found him about 30 yards away keeled over on his side. He was still breathing so was quickly dispatched to stop suffering.

I was told that the farmer had been after him for ages and there was I on only my second true non clay shoot getting the truly unexpected. Great day and didn’t feel upset about getting something so big and unexpected, which I thought I might do (and the OH said I should do). Still got the smile on may face now.

Its good that someone has been kind enough to give you a real pigeon shooting experience and kudos to "unclestuffy" for doing that. :)

Agreed, it does wonders to help out fellow shooters, I had someone contact me via PM on another forum and I took him out, we got on immediately, he now gets paid on our farm to vermin control for me.

I've also given a few days shooting to some local people who couldn't get permissions, it helps to have a another landowner give a reference.

PAID to shoot vermin?

You'd be drummed out of the farmer's union in our area for even thinking of such a thing

Well done lads. Very generous of you.

Rich, you are too generous

Where I shoot one of the farmers expects someone to be on his rape 24/7 but won't even donate some bales or other materials for hides let alone cartridges or bangers. Another farmer has a logging / tree surgery business but can't be ***** to drop some leyllandi branches off with the tractor to allow me to build a hide to protect his crops. I've had to lug them up the fields myself after transporting them from the tip on my roofbars. Both of them run farm shops and have access to game dealers and freezers but won't buy the pigeons.

The days of farmers dropping a couple boxes of shells and a few bangers off are well in the past round here.

Nice one unclestuffy. You wouldn't believe how helpful taking inexperienced shooters out can be. I learnt more in 2 nights lamping with albob off here than I have in 2 years on the sidelines. I also made a good friend as a bonus. I'll hopefully be out with boffin in the future too.

Unclestuffy, I work in Halifax. If you need any help on the piddies, give me a shout

Dear Mr Dav026,

You would be scared of ferrets if gloria was pulled from Dave's trousers. Yes, I openly admit I am a jesse around ferrets, in fact I have only ever held one once and I can still play the piano.

Dogs are a better size but can't quite squeezer our dogs down a rabbit warren.

Need to go out again soon

Superb mr stuffy,

Id like to say me and unclestuffy started doing abit of shooting together and now we are firm friends.

Apart from he acts like a big jesse around ferrets!!!

He is even scared of Gloria............easter-ferret-bunny-cute-animal-pictures.jpg

I'm Glad Dave didn't pull something out of his trouser's with a pink ribbon on when I was there, even if he does calls it Gloria. I'd have been off faster than that fox.
