buying my first gun

Recommended Posts

hi i am going on wednesday to pick my first gun up from a gun shop and

i am just wondering what i have to do by informing the firearms offices :good:

Your dealer should give you a pre=printed notification form that you will need to forwatrd to your firearms unit.

It is best if you take a copy and keep it in your file.

Other than that, nthing

Good shooting

Whenever I have bought a gun from a dealer they have taken care of all the notifications for me, they just enter details on your licence and away you go.

You are taking a hell of a chance leaving it to the dealer to notify your Police Force.

If anything goes wrong, then that's your Certificate away. For Good. Full Stop.

Notify the Police of the make, model, guage and serial number yourself and, as said above, send it by Recorded Delivery.

Somerset and Avon will accept an email. I still send the letters by recorded delivery too, just to be sure.

Didnt accept mine when I had .222 added- They asked for written confirmation after I send them an e mail ( Recorded delivery is best) you have proof of posting that way

Your local police website will often have the forms you can download and print off to send to them.

If your dealer does it for you like many do, ask him when he'll send it and them call the Firearms dept to make sure they've received it.

All depends on your local office, I've emailed forms with a scanned signature before to Derbyshire and they've accepted them.

Most important thing to do is call them a few days after they should have received it and check they know about the transfer.
