wiper motor for rotary

anyone made there own rotary ? if so which wiper motor did you use ? car make ? front rear ? any ones to avoid ? i am on with making one at the moment and i am trying out a model aeroplane starter motor any advice welcome cheers holly :hmm:

A model starter motor will be far to fast and may not have the torque required. I have made several rotaries and just use whatever comes to hand. I think some are from a fiat and one is from a skoda.

 

As long as they have a way of mounting them with the output shaft sticking up vertically they will be fine.

 

Have a look on the bay for a suitable one and then go to your local scrapyard and get one for a fiver :)

Hi Holly, i have written an article on how to build a rotary, i can send you all the details if you would like, mine works very well, Peter Theobald who writes for sporting gun has seen it and liked it a lot

i would'nt mind the details TEH if you dont mind,im going to have a go at building one but any guidance would be appreciated.

made mine in about 2/3 hours.

used the front wiper motor off a rover 214 an old trolley jack handle [the small red ones that most car shops sell] a exhast u clamp some steel rod and box section from b&q works a treat will get some pics on asap cost about £20/£25

i used a vaxhall front motor on a peice of flat plate with 4 bits of 10mm threaded rod for legs works a treat, i got a motor controller from maplans for £15 that was the most exspecive bit, made my own arms out of light steel box section and threaded rod 4mm..you can evan extend them in or out i'll try and take some pics...
