webber
I friend and I have been to view a now abandoned shoot with a view to re establishing it. The pens and some infrastructure still exists, but requires some repair. The owner of the woods has advised us that the woods now form part of an SSSI which was established after the shoot operating. Clearly if we are to get the shoot running again we will have to jump through some hoops. I wondered if any members had experience of operating a pheasant shoot within the confines of an SSSI? webber
Paddy Galore!
I don't know much about operating a shoot but a friend of mine has a small turkey farm on an SSSI, he has to use fibre wad and non toxic shot on the land. Not sure of any other implications involving the rearing of poults.
Beardo
one of the farms i shoot on has an SSSI in the middle of it - to shoot over that area, it's fibre wads and non-lead shot only.

Beardo
http://www.basc.org.uk//en/departments/gam...onlead-shot.cfm it does say "specified SSSIs" so worth checking with them.
955i
It would probably depend on what the SSSI was designated for, it could be its floral assemblage which wouldn't be such a problem or it could be rare wintering birds which could be a bit of a different matter. If you know the name of the SSSI then you can look up the citation on the Natural England website or PM me the name and I will have a look into it for you
