Deerstalkerlunt
I want to start reloading as the cost of bullets is driving me mad! I have ordered the 2nd edition of the lees reloading manual to read up first but what kit do I need for basic .243 and .308 reloading? and other equipment that I will definetly need as I have no idea where to start! I was thinking the lees 50th anniversary kit or the challenger kit but I am unsure what the difference is.
albob
the challenger has a few extra bits This kit replaces the popular 35th Anniversary Kit features the same components as the 50th kit but we have replaced the Safety Prime with the Auto-Prime and a set of Auto-Prime shell holders. This kit is for those who prefer to prime off of the press. the primers are not done with the seperate hand primer but,are done with the press. dies for you cal...full length die..used if the ammo case is not from you rifle..this or the neck die,has the primer remover inside it. neck die.........used for the cases fired from your rifle seating die......used to insert the bullet head powder trickler scales funnel digital caliper length cutter tool deburring tool hand press primer pocket cleaner plastic shellcase holder lube shellholder for your cal you can get a reloading data book, specificaly for your cal, rather than buy one that covers many other ones.unless you want to reload other cals then the 2nd edition may cover them(their is the new 8th edition out).you can get pdf file off the internet to cover reloading data to. also look on youtube,it is amazing what you can pick up but,you cannot beat practical learning from a fellow reloader.ask as someone local may be able to show you the basics. others may add or correct things,as i`m newish to reloading. al Edited May 4, 2010 by albob
lineshooter
If you are just starting out and on a tight budget then you cannot go wrong with the Lee stuff, its affordable, very user friendly and if you do break anything you just email them and they will send a replacement Foc. The Lee deluxe sets are good value as you get a neck and full lenght sizing die together in the kit, most dies will fit other manufacturers presses so if you get a Lee press and have the chance of RCBS dies or vica versa then they can be used. Again dependant on budget try and buy bullet heads in bulk as component items just seem to go up and up each week and shop around for powder as after your press and dies this will be the next most expensive purchase. As mentioned in the previous post do your homework, use the internet and read anything about reloading that you can get your hands on. Poston here for tips and load recipies, and also search sites like this for used reloading items, and you shouldn`t go far wrong.
the running man
Ide find someone who does a little course,or get a mentor if u like! Its pretty easy once u get into it,a single stage press is the way to go,prime 10 powder 10 then after a year or so get a turret press,I use a lee loadmaster for pistol rounds but a rcbs single stage for rifle rounds.if u wanna know anthing specific ile try to answer it,check out www.reloading.org.uk
mayfly36
INTERESTED IN reloading as well, but what are we talking when it comes to CASH, on average what would the price off a kit cost?
the running man
Have a read on www.reloading.org.uk and on midway .co.uk and on the sportsman website. And on the trading posts here, there's always someone selling a press and paraphinalia.cost ummm I reckon u could get going for £200 depending wat u wanna reload,if u shoot a lot itl take a short time to pay for itself. Marty J
I've just started reloading for my 223 and bought a Lee Aniversary kit. Adding a set of digital scales and a micrometer, it came to about £250.
