Billy.
EDIT: Title should have said 'Wing Mirror Rest' As per the title, I would like to make a rest for my rifle, when I'm out lamping. I've seen quite a few cars with wing mirror rests, but I can't find anything online. Can you post a pic of your rest, so I can get a good idea about what I should create. Thanks  Edited May 10, 2010 by Billy.
badshot
I don't have one but did think the other day that a caravanning extension may be usefully adapted for the purpose.
Beardo
i got hold of some of that thin but dense rubber foam you get on handlebars - split it into flat sheets then lined the door edge and wing mirror (they're fairly chunky on the frontera so didn't need to add anything else). You can just about see it here... Edited May 10, 2010 by nickbeardo
Frenchieboy
Hech Nick, your Fronty is nearly as scratched up as mine mate!
Beardo
that's the good side! i rubbed it up against a nail sticking out of a post the other day - ouch. but that's the joy of owning a sub £1000 shooting wagon - i don't care where it goes, if the scratch is deeper than the paint, it just gets a quick spray of primer/paint and away we go. Frenchieboy
Yep, that's the way I see it Nick, it's a tool not something to drive down the high street just for people to admire. Anyway if it's all scratched and messed up and looks like a rubbish tip it's less likely to get stolen by chavs in their designer shell suits in case they get their trainers dirty! al4x
fortunately on mine the mirror seems to have been made beautifully so the rifle fits between it and the bodywork, However there was one on here a while back with suction cups for the bodywork to hold the rest in place looked pretty good. Guess you're finding the defender hard to lamp out of?
Dunkield
What about a bag rest?
Billy.
i got hold of some of that thin but dense rubber foam you get on handlebars - split it into flat sheets then lined the door edge and wing mirror (they're fairly chunky on the frontera so didn't need to add anything else). You can just about see it here... I couldn't really make out what you'd made...! I'll look a bit closer next time I'm at yours! What about a bag rest? I thought that, but if you've ever sat in a Defender you'll realise that the door is so close to the seat that there's no door pocket or arm rest, so I have to shoot off the wing mirror. Plus, it's my preferred shooting position, as the mirror is at the perfect hight. Edit: I make it sound as if there should be a foot between the seat and the door window...! I'm sure you know what I mean though Edited May 14, 2010 by Billy.
