Hi,

Just canvassing some views on here prior to my deciding on a semi auto to take wildfowling.

I'll predominantly be shooting mallard, wigeon and teal with the odd Canada and hopefully Whitefront.

Berettas don't fit me so they're not listed and I'm only looking amongst the above choices unless someone has a particularly strong recommendation.

Thanks - all views welcome.

Jon ,

Why wouldn't a beretta fit you ?

Out of your list I would have to say the Browning Maxus, the Benelli SBE is too much money for a true marsh gun and the SX3 is awful. The Benelli M2 is wasted with a 3" chamber as at some point you will want to use 3.5" cartridges.

However I have a Beretta Extrema and feel there is not a finer 'fowling gun available.

I know someone that uses a benneli super nova pump, pick one up brand new for around 500-600 quid and there prodomently made of plastic(i think) which is a godsend when you are around salt air/water etc. Ill be buying one soon :)

Jon, I have an M2 and can't fault it, use it for Wildfowling mainly too. I am in Bristol, if you fancy a pop with it let me know and you are more than welcome to try with a range of carts.

I voted SBE because of the 3.5" issue, however if thats not such an issue the M2 is the best of the bunch I'd say, but for the money as mentioned before the SuperNova is the best bet.

Obviously the M2 is only 3" as MC and throdgrain states, i've never found it a hindrance but tend to use hevi-shot. That said I guess 3 1/2" steel may well be cheaper?

yep i got one too. brand new ! cheap.

i saw a 2nd hand one in a gun mag, 20 shots fired £300 ono. marmite guns. keep your eye out and find one.

they are the toughest guns around. dont be swayed by steel is ****. i ran 1000 steel clay shells through mine in 2 days. easy to strip and clean. right down to the firing pin. it can handle any 12gauge shell on the market.

they clean up very well, i fell in the drink last trip. it didnt matter because they are tough. i cleaned it out as soon as i got home. it was filthy.

used "duck oil" the irony.

you get used to pumping it, i put in half decent scores, and its unbeleavable on trap !

it has a magazine stop, you can empty the mag independently. not through the chamber.

however i`ll be getting an m2 just for steel shells at sporting clays. check out the airgunbbs. i have a review.

Gas guns have less felt recoil if that helps.

Apparently the Maxus is the softest about
