jko
Information please, I have recently been permission to shoot 350 acres of arable land which comprises also,. a large wood which backs on to a massive wood which is full of large deer I was there today having a walk around with the farmer/landover and he was bemoaning the damage caused by the deer which comes out of the massive wood which belongs to the National Trust he also asked me to cull the large number of Canadian geese, but I dont know if it is legal, I dont have a centre fire rifle so a mate who refs at one of our local clay shoots can have the deer culling. but can anyone tell me if it ok to shoot the Geese? thanks. MM
I think the 'Canadians' are starting to get a bit mad about this goose thing. Even i cant hold back now. I think that if the 'Canada' Geese are causing damage and if other methods have been tried and failed, then yes, a rifle would work. As to what rifle would be best, some would say a .22 rimfire, and others would say a .50 cal. Either one will kill them, but what is right for the job? Ive heard of people using .22 and .17 HMR rifles for geese. Shotguns are the accepted method.

jko
Only if they shoot first Yes I know I can shoot the geese with a shotgun, I didnt know if there is a seson to cull them or not, I havent shot game or vermin for years and I dont really want to kill creatures that arent a threat to me and the main thing that the farmer was mad about was the mess they leave around a pool on the estate, In my earlier shooting days like most on here I used to enjoy shooting Pigeons and Rabbits, Hares etc, But now I cant see the sense in killing for fun. Maybe if I shoot 2 or 3 the rest will leave for safer pastures. Thanks for any info.

jko
hang on you don't really want to kill creature's? but you've just gained some permission to shoot on 350 acre's of arable land what was you thinking of shooting on there, clay's? I was asked If would help out by a farm worker who thought I might still have a suitable rifle on ticket my rifle days are long gone, the chap knows I still shoot , I dont want to shoot the deer, but I wont say no to the venison ive been offered, I dont mind killing 2 or 3 geese if its legal and it means the geese go elswhere, after that my involvement on the land will be finished I would rather kill clays on the registered circuit. Probally not, considering some of the replies!. Thanks again..

jko
Erh, no thanks, young Paulos, with you on the team the place would resemble a lunar landscape. no life, visable for miles with your amazing skill with a shotgun!!! (Second only to me and Chard in skill) I have decided to give away the chance to help a farmer who needs help, Going by the replies of a couple of members on here who obviously havent a clue about culling the species I asked about.! Hhhm, UK Fowler obviously isnt a real fowler,? didnt understand the question!. But many thanks to the responsible members on this site. who gave me answers to my questions, Thanks guys,
