toka_shigazu
hi, i have recently seen a number of posts on different forums asking for details of vets that still dock pups legally. Does anyone know of such a list, do BASC or CA or any of the other organisations have a list of vets that dock pups given the right circumstances.... apache
Most of the Vets in my area (rural) will dock working dogs in accordance with the law. I doubt you would have trouble finding one that did it. Just ask around your shooting friends.
toka_shigazu
hi...there is only one vet near here that does it all the others wont. the north east is worst people having to travel over 150 miles to get to vets and back...just wondering if there is some kind of database set up for all owenrs who want to dock. it seems pretty hit and miss otherwise... atb
apache
I am a vet, I dock puppies, as do the two neighbouring practices. You can go to three practices that dock puppies from my house before you can get to a supermarket. None of these practices did it before the change in the AWA. You asked lately? WGD
the north east is worst people having to travel over 150 miles to get to vets and back That would be a joy, try living in Scotland!
toka_shigazu
yup..tring to compile a list of vets for people or see if one is already available for people to find one without having to travel silly distances. Most have given the 'we shouldn't have to mutilate an animal' stance, and 'we should question the whether owners should be putting them into a position that the risk is so great that we have to mutilate them to stop a greater harm happening to them, perhaps owners should have to change their actions?' at one of the vets was a young lady who was training and she stated that in her Uni intake there were no trainees who would agree to 'mutilate' an animal and so they would not be docking. the vet himslef questioned the fact that dew claws are removed, and this is a more painful experience ofr a pup in his eyes, he thought it wouldnt be long before that form of mutilation was also outlawed... i am in a semi rural area here so it isnt just town/cities where the vets wont do it. think the only thing to do is encourage country people who understand into the vets practices otherwise we may find less and less docking...? atb

toka_shigazu
yup i know....and i am sure in the years to come things will come on top and if found out it will probably mean losing the dogs... would far rather try to find vets that will do it now and get the organisations like BASC, CA etc to encourage country minded people into the practice... atb
