cockofthenorth
When going shooting with friends, there is never enough room in the double cab for guns, cartridges and bait bags. If you put guns in the pick up bit ,they just roll around and the dogs jump on them. I would like to make a "cabinet" for the truck rear to accomodate all this gear. Has anyone got any ideas on the best design? I would like it to look smart but be durable. The trucks a nissan outlaw.

Cranfield
You can buy trunks for the cargo area of trucks, that can be locked and are considered secure (for tools etc), but I wouldn't lave anything too valuable in them , for too long. Have you considered a gun rack in the rear window area of the cab ? The guns (in cases) rest on hooks, just for the journey.
cockofthenorth
I dont like the idea of the window mounted gun hooks. Obscures view and the guns are visible from the outside. You can buy gun cabinets for the back of Range Rovers its something like that I want. I would never leave guns unattended even in a locked vehicle. We take it in turn to take our vehicles. Not only saving on fuel costs but also saving enviromental damage. cockofthenorth
This is what I want: www.lintran-products.co.uk/ executive.htm Problem solved (If I can make one myself to fit the truck bed)
Hardy
Chap at my local shooting ground has just had somehting similar fitted to his 4x4 just not as flash. Basically it was a big steel drawer about 9" high fixed to floor in the back. Cost was reasonable (£300 ish) - I'd fancy having something fitted to my car except I'd never get to the spare wheel again!
Cranfield
You could buy a gun cabinet and fix it to the bed of your truck, with the door opening upward (like a coffin). That would be very secure , cheap and I believe they are all waterproof.

cockofthenorth
thanks for all the tips gents. I will start making the cabinet next week, out of 1/2 inch ply and stainless steel sheet. The lining will be green felt for some drawers and a waterproof lining in others.I will post a picture when it is finished.
