i have held a firearms licence for a few years and had no problems with variations to the licence in the past , but as i delivered my licence to the police today i was told by a firearms officer i was not entiled to shoot until my licence is returned. i am adding a calibre to it . not removing one .?the problem is that they told me it would be about a 3 - 6 week wait until i get it back .which seams like a life time . any help would be great on how i stand .

I just put in for my variations. And my FEO also told me to stock up on plenty of what ever ammo i need. As my ticket may take a few weeks to come back. So i take it from that i am legal to shoot whilst my ticket is in having a caliber put on it. Otherwise why would he suggest that i buy extra ammo. Perhaps the officer in question is some what new to fac laws. But if it wasn't legal to do so, i wont have gone out with my gun today.

as above.

you already have a licence for the guns in your posession, the fact that you've handed it back for a variation does not alter this.

if you are questioned by the fuzz, ie. where's your ticket ? then all they need to do is search your details on their computermebob. a good idea to carry a photocopy and your permission slips tho.

did he get mixed up and think your fac was in for a renewal?

as others have said, you are okay to shoot and any check will show you have a current fac and no reason like that would stop me shooting,as he is giving incorrect information.

i sent for a variation and carried on shooting while it was being processed.

if your still concerned, just ring up and ask the question, they are there to help,so ask "if your fac is in for a variation, can you still go shooting?",bet the answer is yes.. :hmm:
