Took the jeep to this wood i march with, and with the wind perfect i got to sit in it overlooking about 400 yards of barley running along the wood. Not the best of evenings, very cloudy and not much heat but it was better than staying in the hoose.Got there about 8ish,and after about an hour 3 peesies(lapwings) started swooping as though mobbing something about 20 yards from me.I couldnt see anything as the grass is waist height on me,so i leant over to the back to unzip the bag and get the gatt out.I was just getting it when a fox appeared about 10 yards in front.I didnt move and he just took a few looks at the jeep and started hunting away from me.After he had went a good bit,50ish,i grabbed the rifle and got out but the fox was on the horizon only about 70 yards away.No matter how i moved i couldnt get a safe shot.I presume it was looking for an easy lapwing or oystercatcher chick as there are plenty nesting on this ground.I let him go but being a creature of habit i think that will be the route most evenings so an ambush is called for.Later on,just when i was thinking of sacking it a roe appeared about 350 away. When i glassed he looked nothing special,so i started stalking into him.It was open ground i had to cover but he was none the wiser, and when i judged 200 i got down.He was butt on for ages, but he eventually turned broadside and the shot was taken. On the impact there was a satisfying thump, but he ran about 20 yards and looked to be away to jump the fence back into the wood so i necked him just to make sure. The first shot was pap on but rather have him on my ground instead of legging it a wee bit and having to look for him and for all i know i could have fluffed the first one.Cracking head that should make silver.Very even and over 10 inches, and the beast clean weighed 19kg.

Davie, what is ment when folk say silver ect ref antlers :hmm:

Grand looking beast by the way, like wise i too have my own pans and diggers, waste of a good stock for the broth, :D

The bigger heads can qualify for medals,ie,bronze silver and gold by the CIC and now BASC also. Most of it depends on the weight and volume, with length taken in along with beauty points which dont make up many points. For bronze,105-114.99 points are needed, silver 115-129.99 and gold is above that.If you are down at Scone or other game fairs visit their tents,as its very interesting to see them scoring and the different kinds of heads.

nice one dave fine looking heed :o :) pitty you never got the charlie tho he,ll **** up at some point tho :good: :look: :hmm:
