TonySmith
Looking to get the 'Kid' a half decent Float Rod/Match Rod to pursue his Angling interest, being an 'Ex-Carper' my knowledge is a bit out of date (The only float rod I own is the Diawa Ivan Marks Lightning...and I really do not want that to get bashed about..... ) Thanks Tony

charliebrown
I use a Wychwood Maximiser float rod. I mainly use it on small tench to about 5lb. Its great for this as its got a bit of power down in the butt but the tip is softish so helps with hook pulls. It also doubles as my livebait catcher. I Had a Kamasan Floatmaster before which I loved for silvers but it didnt have the power to deal with a fiesty tench in the snaggy lakes I like. Neither of these are top line rods but are perfectly suited to what I want them for. Wychwood do some nice middle range rods and Ive heard thqat the Maver Abyss is a good buy for about £40. Get in the tackle shop and have a play with a few, its also a perfect excuse to dust off your own rods and get back into the fishing. You know it makes sense! One thing is that I do think it worth starting kids out with the longest rod they can handle. I think it helps develop a good casting action

colin lad
Thankyou for your kind offer Colin. Tony had a rummage in the garage i have 2x 11ft canal float rods a 12ft image float rod and a daiwa whisker 12 float rod all unused now the latter 2 were the dogs dangely bits in there day all have cork handles if any of them are any good. the 2 canal rods would be ideal for younger kids very light, all rods were used in match fishing at a high level and do well. colin

If we can encourage more Young to take up Angling... it would solve many problems in some areas of society today, and go somewhere to safeguarding all country pursuits. its the sport i was brought up on my dad was a fisherman and owned a tackle shop when i was young i love the sport i have 3 boys and cant get them interested in it but they do like shooting so some small consolation. i was match secretary for my local club a few years back and we had a good junior section but they just seemed to drift away they don't have any now. its a shame as kids are the future of any sport,
Spaniel
Same here Colin, Im the chairman for our local club and we dont seem to get many young ones at present. My eldest lad (18) loves fishing so i succeeded there but he isnt really into shooting. Think kids seem to like the game consoles more these days,
