Benelli Supersport: Semi Auto

Hello

I just want to put a general question out of, does anyone have any experience of the Benelli Supersport? Good or Bad?

I ask because I have just bought a Benelli Comfort to support my Beretta 686 Gold E - I only shoot clays and am relatively new to the sport having only stated in October last year - and I am wondering if I should have bought the Supersport instead.

I originally didn't want a synthetic semi at all or a Benelli and wanted either Beretta/ Browning and circa 1k budget as a semi auto was something I wasn't going to use as my main choice. But, having tried feel and fit, the Benelli Comfort was the one left on the table.

Now, I have put 150 Cartridges through it, I have found it so comfortable, handles so well I am shooting it nearly as well as my 686 Gold E already. So, my dilemma is I am now looking at the Supersport because one was put to me before second hand but nearly new, this years model but because I wasnt sure about Semi's I didnt want to commit that much money and I have an urge to own it. ???

So, as I am not the most "flush" financially I can't add to my guns, which means I would have to sell one to own the Supersport. I wanted to keep my 686 Gold E as it is more traditional should I start to go on shoots or do more with my Clay shooting and do some registered CPSA shoots.....

So guys n gals, opinions etc as no one outside of this kind of arena will understand my thoughts.... ???

Nice guns, maybe a tad over priced, but good looking, and very "whippy" when compared with a Beretta 682, they obviously handle very differently.

I use mine primarily for Pigeons, but have shot clays with it, I've fitted a Briley weighted magazine cap to slow it down a bit, seems to work fine, I have heard that some folks have had problems with them cycling 28 gram loads. ???

You don't see that many on the serious clay circuit.

They are both Synthetic Guns, as say which originally and the reason for 'desire' perhaps more than logic for considering the change is because the Supersport I have been offered is a good price, and it is a better looking gun....

It does look good and I agree, Benelli's do come in overpriced in my opinion compared to the competition. As for not being used in serious Clay Shoots, I agree they aren't but is that just because of a fashion thing and the fundamentals of cartridge ejection etc?

I do know that the two times I have taken it now it has drawn attention and those i have let use it have been all suitably surprised by it.....

Thanks guys, keep the comments coming....as say only folks from here would grasp the 'desire'aspect

I don't think it's a problem with semi autos generally, quite a few top shots now use them on the circuit, it's just that nobody seems to use the Benelli Supersport.

I also invested in a 4" barrel extension to mine, that now makes it point very much like an O/U, with more weight up the front end.

Just been down to Doveridge yesterday, where my mate bought one of these. We both had a play with the demonstrator gun, and it cycled everything from 21gm/7.5 to 28gm Eley Firsts without any problems at all. We met up with the Northern region Benelli/GMK rep, who said that while they cannot guarantee the gun will cycle light loads, once it is well and truly 'shot in' they seem to cycle even 21gm ok. I must admit, if they had another second-hand gun, I would have been walking away with a much lighter wallet  - nice gun

I owned one for about 8 months. It looked great, cycled faultlessly but the butt was way to short. I dont have a massive reach but I had to have the butt professionally extended and anyone else who shot with it struggled. All in all I liked the quality of the gun but I couldnt shoot it to save my life! Glad I owned it but I paid something like £1,500 new for it and traded it for a .22 CZ, bits of kit and a new Hatsan Escort FAC Auto. The Hatsan shoots better by a long way but has cycle issues.

Its like a most guns, spending a fortune doesn't ensure a good gun or a good shot. If it fits you then yoou'll do the business with it. I reckon the stock is a massive design flaw with it and one that might not be too appaerent until youve actually shot with it. I didnt realise it just by mounting it in the shop!

You got to love the names in here :good:

Thanks for the feedback, but was it the synthetic supersport you owned?

I have heard several comments about stock length on the comfortech stock but you can buy various butt pads that can alter this to some extent but as I already own a benelli comfort, I personally do not find the stock length to much of an issue, so wouldnt be a bother to me.

Not sure of the physics of bodyshape to stock length but I have large shoulders and chest - too many years in the gym so the gun sits in "gods pocket" quite deep but feels good and comfortable for me....food for thought as may have my mount looked at or get it photographed so can see exactly how I am mounting it before I reach for the dollars......

But I do sooooooooo want one B)
