perron
hello all, i have just got my licence and have just had one of these guns given to me by my uncle but he said it needs a new magazine plug (think thats what there called) to make it from a 4 shot to a 3 shot, it has been done before about 18years ago but he said the plug inside the gun is damaged and needs a new one he said if i get one his mate will put it in for me, but i dont know where to buy one, anyone know? cheers, perron
duck duster
You cant buy them it has to be restricted by a gun smith and a certificate issued. If it needs a new one it is more than 3 shot and therefore on a FAC

perron
In your first post you said you had been given the gun ok let me put it another way, i spoke to him on the phone a few days ago and told him that i now have my licence and he told me i could have the gun so i said ok so in my eyes he has given me the gun, thats why i put that, i have not even seen the gun yet let alone have it in my possession. mickmep
sounds iffy. if it was restricted, then why would your uncle have it on his fac as section one ? i would have thought that your uncle has it on sgc if it had been restricted in the past, then broke, unless he had it reproofed as section 1 when it broke. if it has been reproofed as section 1 due to capacity and needs a plug, gunsmith fitting and reproofing i would have thought it would be almost as cheap to buy one that was already 2+1 has your uncle declared it as a section 1 shotgun ? BlaserF3
I have a feeling that this will crop up from time to time as it was up to the individual to have semi auto's restricted to 3 shot and have them reproofed. At the time of this legislation shotguns were not entered on a certificate, so nobody knew what you owned.
marlin vs
Make you'r own one, I did and I can't see why a gun-smith has to fit it or have it re-proofed.It's only a plactic plug 15mm at the narrowest 25mm at the widest and 70mm long the piece of tape is only 20mm wide and it is 10mm from one end I used this one untill I found a proper one,if you'r stuck for one this will get you out of a hole. Andy H
A bit of insulation tape and plastic is not regarded a permanent magazine retriction in england
marlin vs
A bit of insulation tape and plastic is not regarded a permanent magazine retriction in england OK,do ye have to have something put in that cannot be removed at all, over here we are only allowed 3 shot, one in the breech and 2 in the magazine, but I can remove my plug in a couple of minutes and make it a 4 shot, obviously I only remove it an odd time when i'm cleaning the spring.Below is the proper plug. Andy H
The magazine tube has to be crimped or a collar welded into it together with fixing the mag tube to the action with a blind welded pin or if alumunium engineerig grade adhesive to lock the threads into the action. mudpatten
I don`t believe that the gun, when suitably modified, has to be "re-proofed" as was earlier suggested. Rather than submitting the gun to the rigors of another proof test, the Proof House simply inspects the gun and certifies that the restriction is carried out in a satisfactory fashion. Andy H
Yes that's all that happens a visual inspection to confirm that it has been done to approved standards and then stamped and certified.

I believe that it was over 20 years ago, but I'm probably wrong At the time I was told that the gun had to be "reproofed" but I knew that it was only the magazine tube that had to be "reproofed" and stamped. Funny that I never even mentioned "Gun" in my reply. Oh, and by the way mudpatten it was in 1989 I really must try harder to be more precise
