Review of licensing laws

Recommended Posts

Just heard on the news government have announced a review to the firearms licensing laws, :good:. I wonder whether this is a smokescreen to calm the general public, or whether it will have some real consequences for us.

Time will tell but i reckon we may be in for some extra hoops to jump through :hmm: .

what ever they put our way, we will have to take it.dont panic

Hi les

from what i have heard this review will be extra to the 2010 amendments that are coming in to force, spurred by the recent incidents regarding firearms/shotguns.

I know there is no need to panic but i feel that we as responsible shooters already do enough work to comply with the law, and that any further changes will not stop or reduce the un licensed gun problem, just cause more problems for us.

or to be synical perhaps its a way for the government to creat another tax !!! :D

will stop now starting to rant :good::hmm:;)

thanks for listening

The Firearms Laws need reviewing, in many cases they are a contradictory cock up, brought about by knee jerk reactions from idiots who have no knowledge of firearms.

A proper review by sensible knowledgeable human beings would be to the benefit of many shooters.

What we seriously do not want is some bunch of ****** tightening up on rules, that if administered correctly and uniformly throughout the country, are plenty tight enough!

Last time I heard the figures it was between 1-2% of gun crime was committed by legally held firearms...I can't help thinking it would be more productive for the Government to concentrate more resources on the 98-99% of gun crime and leave us alone.

For anyone who cares to look back at the figures you will find gun crime increased the year after pistols were banned! :hmm::good:

"to raise the age at which people in England, Wales and Scotland may purchase or hire firearms or ammunition from the current 17 years of age to 18."

:good: do they not learn? whats this going to do for the safety of the general public? Waste of time and money.

Only thing i can see a need for is more regular health checks with doctors etc, every 5 years isnt enough, anything can happen to a person mind in that time.

Isn't it funny that not once in the news about old Moaty recently have i heard that gun licening should be tightened! he was using ilegal weapons with no certificates and the press have left this issue alone! if people want hand guns and sawn off they still can get them. :good: But when there was that due the other week that is all they were banging on about! i find it very frustrating. About what they'll do, i spoke to my firearms officer about my variation and when we were chatting he said he thinks they will put the cost of the licence up. It is quite out of date if you think you pay at least £26 a year to fish! a shot gun works out £8. not that i want it up!

That's just to bring us in line with Europe.

Personally i think the fact you can get a driving licence at 17 for cars and 21 for HGV and then have no review until 75 for cars and 50 for HGV (then only medical check) is even worse I think driving licences should need renewal every 10 years and 5 for professional drivers (taxi, bus (PSV) HGV and vans over 2.8t GVW) driving laws and regs change far more often and more people are killed and injured on the road than by all firearm crimes including both legal and illegal firearms and air weapons...

Total reported casualties among car users were 143,412, 4 per cent lower than 2008.
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/datat...mainresults2009
Total injuries in 2008/9 caused by weapons inc air 2,458
Table 2 b http://rds.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs10/hosb0110.pdf

Tell me which one needs better regulation to keep people safe.......
