First go at them on the wheat!

I had a rather enjoyable afternoon on laid wheat yesterday. I managed to bag these 44 pigeons but must have shot at least 50 if not more! unfortunately i lost several in the standing wheat but that was sadly inevitable. I shot approximately 75 cartridges give or take a few so i was well impressed with my ratio and throughly enjoyed myself!

I was able to book yesterday off work and was very fortunate that it didn't rain! I'll keep you posted when I'm next out in the field so you can look out for the pictures! :hmm:

good set up similar to what i do but would have put the rotary in front of decoy pattern not to the side of em but spliting hairs now :o :hmm::hmm:

Ideally i would've done the same however the wind was totally wrong for the hide and after moving it several times i finally started to bring them in closer by putting it near the edge of the standing crop! Just one of those weird things...

I must admit it does pay to move sometimes when they aren't decoying well. I'm hoping for better days on the same field in the near future, especially as the wind wasn't blowing in the right direction for me last time!

Yep ur right moving can help. Funny thing is I ended with a couple of floaters and 8 shells one pole and a bit of cammo net and a seat ! I started with a truckload of gear out makes me think going light might be the way to go in future!!

If possible and with permission of course we'll try and get on the field with the car making it easier but sometimes we have good distances to walk so in those cases i usually just carry my hide, gun, cartridges, hide poles and possibly a few decoys but leaving things like the rotary behind...

Thats exactly what I do.

Then some times, you've gotta carry 100 dead birds ,plus equipment, half a mile along hedgerows, in exceptionally long grass, back to the vehicle. Each step is a nightmare, thats if you don't trip with all the undergrowth. LOL.

But would we change anything, no we love it.

If i've shot a ton in a day then lugging heavy gear plus the dead birds across fields doesn't really bother me... :good:
