Lunchtime only

Went back to the recently cut rape fields yesterday having set-up for a couple of hours the day before shhoting 10.

 

Up nice and early, all set up at 8am having stood and watched good numbers dropping in from trees and an emerging flightpath. Shot 3 birds in first 15 minutes and as planning to be there for the day, questioning if have brought enough carts!

 

Then nothing! Not a bird in the sky. Waited and waited. Tryed all the tricks, cup of coffee, toilet stop, even sending a text message. Told myself that if nothing about by midday, would call it quits when bang-on 12 noon, a bird from nowhere dropped into my pattern from way up high. Then another, groups of three and four and so on until 2pm when again it stopped just as suddenly as it had started. It was almost as if they were given 2 hours for lunch and that was that!

 

Ended up with 34 from 50 shots and left at 3pm. Anyone else finding such rigid feeding times? :unsure:

I went to see a field I've permission to shoot a couple of days ago mid afternoon. When I arrived

there must have been 100 birds appeared out of the peas and flew off. There were also loads

flying about in the distance. Unfortunately I had stuff that had to be done in work and I couldn't

get out.

 

I've stopped in a couple of times mid morning in the last two days and there's been nothing about.

 

 

I'm hoping to get out this afternoon so will report back.

Been shooting rape stubble past few nights had 88 between two of us, set up at 3pm just had a few down

went to feed ducks at 6pm and he was banging away! couldnt load fast anough till 8pm then called it a day

been late on every evening last feed before bedtime, been really lucky first rape to be cut round our way.

Too early in one sense and too late in another.

 

Right first of all whats time is sunrise at the moment around 0445 hrs I have seen birds feeding at that time an they tend to have a couple of quick hrs feed.

 

Now last night I shoot from 1800hrs right up till sunset at 2100 hrs .

 

So it not rigid its just the birds using all the daylight at key times .

Maybe pigeons are getting wise to us. Feeding before most of you are up and about then after most of you have gone home for dinner. Sounds like a plan to me!

When people ask my about hobbies I'm going to start replying "sitting in fields".

 

When I got out there was someone on the field I was aiming for but he said that he'd

only had a couple all day. I found them all on another field of uncut something, they all

seemed to be hovering to eat. So I trudged back to the car and lugged all the kit to

where they'd been, set a few shells on the top of the crop with a floater.

 

_1_ bird was decoyed in, but I missed it. After an hour and a half I packed up and sat

under the usual flighline where I got one before having to pack up.
