groach1234
Right well as the title would suggest this thread is about shooting in a barrel. So, first of do you do it? and second if you do, how do you do it? George

Paddy Galore!
I'm no expert, but i'd imagine no would be the answer, apart from .22lr which benefit from lead foul in the grooves, rifles that fire copper jacket rounds require cleaning after shooting. I'd imagine that after the first session followed by a thorough clean, that the barrel would be as accurate as it's ever going to be. Just my theory
garyb
I put a box of 20 factory loads through mine. I clean after each shot for the 1st 10, and then again twice within the next group of 10 shots.
Beretta28g
Easy get 3 bullets in the mag then zero..... and clean the barrel after the first 250 shots, works for me. Oh just to say you go near my cf with a cleaning brush and youll get * ******* **** ********, the last bullet hit the target so the next one will too! Paddy Galore!
I put a box of 20 factory loads through mine. I clean after each shot for the 1st 10, and then again twice within the next group of 10 shots. A fairly quick process then? when i got my 22/250 i put about 5 thru to zero, pulled a patch thru, then another 5 ( full mag load) then another patch. then fired off the rest of the box, then cleaned with brush, cleaner, and patch. seems ok and holds zero fine. garyb
It will be. It's the same dilema with new cars. Some will say, be gentle for the 1st 1000 miles, others say rag it from the off.. I put the twenty shots through, then I will work up a reload for it. Edited July 30, 2010 by garyb
Paddy Galore!
that's what i thought, was just working from my own initiative, i didn't get much advice when i bought it, all the guy said was to clean it after shooting. I suppose a lot of it is down to the quality of the barrel.

Paddy Galore!
http://www.border-barrels.com/articles/shoot-in.htm Oh dear, according to that article i've probably worn the barrel a bit. not bore scoped but still looks shiny and new, no flyers either. AndyCM
Worth doing I think - we are talking a new centrefire here ****** clean it before the first shot ****** there's no telling what's in the barrel or chamber Then as garyb says Massively dependent on how patient you are, but it is also a good way to get to know the rifle / mag / bolt etc & let the barrel cool a bit & concentrate on the shots. Have fun AndyCM
