bicykillgaz
hi, i'm after a bit of advice i've got a baikal .410 huspower and loads of extras which i've been trying to sell to raise cash for going away on my wedding anniversary but it looks like its not going to sell in time, i've decided i'm gonna try my luck and see if i can swap it all for a decent scope for my .22lr. in an ideal world some one would offer me a brand new S&B 8X56 but i'm guessing thats not gonna happen so i'm open to ideas or even offers, i'm open to any decent high end make as i want a scope that i can keep for a good few years. i don't mind if its variable or fixed but would prefere a larger objective for dusk shooting, what sort of scopes should i realistically be looking at? as i said it's on my .22lr but i want something nice for a change, so what would you suggest i should be looking for? cheers in advance atb gary
groach1234
Well you could get a S&B 8x56 second hand for that sort of money, I did. Macleods have a zeiss 6x42 for £150 seems cheap although 6 may be less than you are after. May be worth placing a swap add in sales section. Dunkield
You may find the cross hairs on S&B's a bit thick, have a look at Meopta 7x50's I have one on my .22 and have never felt the need to change it for anything. IMO 7x is plenty mag for a rimfire.
bicykillgaz
cheers for the replies, as soon as i get an idea of whats availible i'll put a proper swap add up but for now i'm just after ideas, then i can go trawling the net for info on any suggestions and have a bit more of an idea on what i might get offered. i'd love and s&b 8x56 my old mans got one on his .22-250 and the clarity is fantastic, i've not heard/or seen much about meopta on here are they decent then? forgive my ignorance i've never had cash spare to spend a fortune on a scope so never bothered looking into it too much
bicykillgaz
are the reticules on s&b's thick in general or just on the fixed mag? i do prefere thinner rets so maybe the s&b's aren't for me after all
al4x
just bung a nikko sterling on it, its only going on a .22lr so high end scopes are a bit wasted. Most shooting will be daylight or under the lamp and they will be fine, last light when the top end glass is important is more for foxing or deer stalking

bicykillgaz
hello chap, i've got a spare leupold vx1 going spare at the moment 4-12x40 with fine duplex ret. thats a very nice looking scope mate, i would prefere to wait and see if anything with a larger objective comes up before comitting to anything if thats ok but it's certainly an upgrade on any of my previous scopes, cheers for that mate i'll pm you when i've assesed all my options B)

An 8x56 is a big and relatively heavy scope on a rimfire,

bicykillgaz
i was under the dissillusion that a larger objective would automatically mean more light, bloody heathen! that leupold has got a really good write up definately worth considering i was looking on the sportsman gun centre site, there reasonable too at £266 inc vat B)

Mine is on my match rifle at the moment, i've taken it out rabbit shooting and i notice that it works very well in low light, compared to the hawke 3-9x50 i'd say i get another 20-30 mins before i need the lamp.
